Mead & Hunt is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Building Engineering team as a Plumbing Design Technician. This exciting opportunity is available at any of the following office locations: Milwaukee, WI; Madison, WI; Denver, CO; Tampa, FL; Chicago, IL; Portland, OR; Sacramento, CA; San Diego, CA; Scottsdale, AZ; Dallas, TX; and, Bloomington, MN. Additionally, this position offers a flexible hybrid work schedule, requiring at least three days per week onsite at our office-an excellent opportunity to enjoy both in-office collaboration and remote flexibility.
Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with the plumbing design of multiple projects of various sizes.
  • Preparing reports and studies.
  • Selecting, specifying, and estimating costs of plumbing system equipment and fixtures.
  • Performing calculations as required.
  • Conducting periodic construction site inspections.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Entrance onto military bases is an essential function of this position; candidates must be able to pass federal, state, and/or local agency background checks. A valid driver's license and approximately up to 25% travel will be required.
The successful candidate will have all of the following:
  • An associate's degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • At least 5 years of relevant plumbing design experience

OR
  • If no degree, must have at least 7 years of relevant plumbing design experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience in any/all of the following:
  • Assist with the plumbing design of complex projects including: fire suppression / sprinkler, compressed air / gas, laboratory water / gas and medical gas design.
  • Performing calculations for system layout and sizing.
  • Using Revit to create bid document drawings.
  • Designing systems for Federal Government projects.
  • Plumbing, fire protection and building codes.
  • American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) Certified Plumbing in Design (CPD) certification is preferred.
  • Wisconsin Designer of Engineering System (DES) - Plumbing license is preferred.
  • Experience or familiarity with generative AI-driven tools, platforms, or systems (e.g. Microsoft Copilot, Chat GPT, Claude, Gemini) to enhance productivity, automate tasks, and reduce errors.
