Job description

Description

At Harbor's Edge, excellence is our standard. Located along the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, our five-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community offers a full continuum of care in an elegant, engaging, and community-focused environment. Recognized as a 2025 "Best" Senior Living Community by U.S. News & World Report, we value and empower our team, providing the same quality and care to employees that we deliver to residents.

We are seeking a full-time Plumber to join our Plant Operations maintenance team. This role involves the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of plumbing systems, fixtures, equipment, and controls, ensuring all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Experience in senior living environments - such as long-term care, assisted living, or memory support - is highly preferred. The ideal candidate demonstrates a genuine passion for supporting residents and contributing to their comfort, safety, and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace plumbing systems, including pipes, valves, fixtures, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve leaks, clogs, drainage issues, and malfunctioning components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure safe and efficient system operation.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for installations and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with plumbing codes and safety regulations.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and collaborate with staff to minimize disruption.
  • Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and system updates.
  • Proficient in ProPress pipe joining and installation of Uponor (PEX) piping; support general building maintenance as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical/vocational plumbing training or state plumbing license preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of plumbing experience; senior living or healthcare facility experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, regulations, and safety practices.
  • Skilled in reading blueprints, diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Proficient with plumbing tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, climb, and work in confined spaces.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, demonstrating compassion in resident-facing environments.

Comprehensive Benefit Package includes:

  • Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off + Six Paid Holidays
  • 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan w/ Employer Contribution
  • Employer Paid - Basic Life & AD&D Insurance
  • Employer Paid - Short-term and Long-term Insurance
  • College Tuition Reimbursement
  • Employer Paid - Certification Training
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Legal Resources & Identity Protection Plan

*Benefit offerings vary according to employment status.
