General Finisher / Remodel Apprentice

Jorge Barrera Construction · Chatsworth / San Fernando Valley, CA

Jorge Barrera Construction is a licensed (CA Class B #986980), family-run general contractor based in Chatsworth, serving Sherman Oaks, the San Fernando Valley, and greater Los Angeles. We're a father-son shop — decades of hands-on craftsmanship paired with modern documentation, clear pricing, and real attention to how a job is run. Recent work includes full unit remodels (kitchen, bath, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, and paint), exterior stucco restorations, and window/door replacements on higher-end properties across LA.

We're looking to bring on a helper/apprentice who wants to actually learn the trade — not just carry buckets.

Must have reliable transportation. Our jobs move around — mostly the LA Westside and the southeast San Fernando Valley (Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, Encino, and nearby areas). You need to be able to get yourself to a different site each day. We can't provide rides, so please don't apply without a dependable way to get to work.

What you'll be doing:

  • Working alongside our crew across every phase of a remodel: demo, framing, drywall, tile, plumbing rough-in, electrical assist, and finish carpentry
  • Learning proper spray and brush finish technique from painters with 25–30 years of experience
  • Prepping and protecting job sites, hauling and organizing materials, keeping work areas clean and on schedule
  • Getting real exposure to full bathroom and kitchen remodels, cabinet installation and hardware, door hanging, and exterior stucco/window work
  • Following JBC's standard of doing things right the first time — we document our jobs and stand behind our pricing, and we expect the same care from our crew

What we're looking for:

  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license — non-negotiable
  • Reliable and on time, every day — this matters more than experience
  • Willing to take direction and actually learn, not just get through the day
  • Comfortable with physical, hands-on work — demo, ladders, being on your feet outdoors in LA weather
  • Prior construction/remodel experience is a plus, but not required — we train the right person
  • Bonus if you've got any exposure to painting, tile, plumbing, or finish carpentry
