Position Summary

Assist in the commissioning, startup and optimization of Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS). This includes but not limited to conveyance, cranes and shuttles. These use technologies such as PLC's, networked devices, Embedded Controllers/PC's and safety devices. Works closely with the overall project team to provide internal stakeholders and customers a best in class solution. This role offers opportunities for career advancement and development into leadership positions within the organization.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Perform final wiring terminations on cranes and shuttle equipment post installation
  • Perform hardware verification and I/O checks in the field
  • Perform initial startup and configuration of cranes, vertical lifts and shuttles as per the project requirements specifications
  • Follow processes and procedures for equipment commissioning and startup. Contributes feedback to processes and to procedures with the objective of improving efficiency and overall quality of the solution.
  • Prepare test protocols and documentation prior to deployment in the field
  • Execute and document test protocols
  • Document "as-built" condition by capturing all changes in the engineering documentation
  • Generate daily site report detailing the work performed, issues encountered and areas requiring attention by others
  • Maintain progress schedules that meet project milestones, raise concerns when appropriate
  • Assist with troubleshooting of issues ranging from simple to complex using computer tools, multimeter and oscilloscope
  • Assist with electromechanical tasks requiring the use of manual tools when needed
  • Safety: Follow all safety protocols/procedures ensuring a safe workplace
  • Travels up to 70% anywhere in North America (US, Canada and Mexico). Some international travel to Japan is likely for training purpose. Valid passport required as well as no restrictions to enter any of the countries listed.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field Experience in engineering design and project execution, preferably in the material handling industry
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley controls/controllers, Mitsubishi or Omron PLC's a plus
  • Must possess strong computer skills as well as a good understanding of general networking equipment, topologies and configuration
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, SharePoint
  • Ability to speak and read Japanese is a plus
  • Demonstrate curiosity and strong desire to continuously learn
  • Have good mechanical aptitudes and abilities to use tools
  • Ability to handle multiple project assignments and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced result-oriented environment
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, vendors, consulting engineers, and installers
  • Ability to lead work teams and projects effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
