Job description

PLC Programmer - Automation

Home Base: Livonia, MI
Travel: Approximately 50% travel to client sites

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced PLC Programmer to develop, program, troubleshoot, and commission industrial automation systems for a variety of manufacturing clients. This role is based out of Livonia, Michigan, with approximately 50% travel to customer facilities for installation, startup, commissioning, and technical support. The ideal candidate has strong experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Telemecanique (Schneider Electric) control systems and enjoys working in a hands-on, customer-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLC systems for industrial automation applications.
  • Develop and modify PLC logic, HMI applications, and automation software.
  • Perform system startup, testing, commissioning, and validation at customer sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical controls, PLC, and automation system issues.
  • Work with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Telemecanique (Schneider Electric) hardware and software.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, control panel drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Support machine integration, process improvements, and production optimization.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and customer teams to ensure successful project completion.
  • Provide technical documentation, programming updates, and customer training as needed.
  • Travel approximately 50% to customer locations for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service.

Qualifications

  • Experience programming Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation PLCs.
  • Experience with Siemens PLCs and industrial automation platforms.
  • Experience with Telemecanique (Schneider Electric) controls and automation equipment.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking, field I/O, motor controls, sensors, and electrical control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50%.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FactoryTalk View, Studio 5000/RSLogix, TIA Portal, WinCC, or similar automation software.
  • Experience with SCADA, VFDs, servo systems, industrial communications (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus), and machine commissioning.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, automotive, or industrial automation projects.
