Job description

Job Summary

The Therapeutic Coordinator works directly with Therapeutic Leadership to create a successful social & emotional therapeutic Dakota classroom.  The Therapeutic Coordinator will see each child as an individual and will meet them where they are to support their social and emotional growth.  

Primary Duties

  • Create and continue unity with therapeutic leader while creating programs and building relationships within the classrooms.   

Conscious Discipline Leader     

  • Maintain, lead and train STARS Team Members in Conscious Discipline 
  • Preserves Conscious Discipline as the foundation in STARS and Playworks     

Additional Responsibilities

  • Positive consistent communication with Team Members   
  • Build relationships with contact STAR Families   
  • Develops systems to verify that STARS Team Members know monthly calendar events, including setting up so each Team Member can attend required meetings and trainings.   
  • Approximately 50% of FTE is classroom coverage. This includes covering Team Member absences, coaching and mentoring others.     
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety: Ex: IHS and Tribal Licensing Requirements, Building, etc.   
  • First aid kit inventory   
  • Update family emergency and medical documentation 
  • Daily and weekly classroom safety checks   
  • Radio Inventory sheets 
  • Field trip and/or special activity authorizations and safety     
  • Monthly family newsletter     
  • Plan with manager and staff collaborators, additional articles regarding Conscious Discipline, skills, MH, Dakota cultural focus       
  • Plan and execute family events     
  • Co-create vision and activities with Therapeutic Program Leadership     Coordinator to plan and implement all aspects, including family communications       Assist Therapeutic Leader with program implementation     
  • Take initiative on follow-thru with Team Members (scheduling, deadlines, completion, etc.)   
  • Yearly Family Engagement plan       
  • Special Projects as assigned   

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old or older. 
  • Associates Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 
  • Must meet qualification and experience requirements from the MN Rule 3 guidelines for Teacher category.       
  • 3+ years’ experience working in a therapeutic early childhood classroom structure. 
  • Worked in an early childhood program that uses. Conscious Discipline preferred. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Confidentiality regarding student, families and team members is a top priority. 
  • First Aide and CPR required. 
  • Complete and pass background check with meeting the requirements of SMSC 
  • This position is subject to testing for drugs (THC included) and alcohol in accordance with the Federal Department of Transportation Regulations as well as the SMSC’s Drug / THC and Alcohol Policy.
