Job Title: Parks Maintenance Technician (Position #2555) Salary: Pay Grade 7, Hiring Rate: $38,584 Provisions of Personnel Ordinance for promotion/demotion/transfer Work Schedule: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm; Monday-Friday. Overtime and on call Rotation Required This position has been determined to be non-exempt under the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma (or GED equivalent); supplemented by one to two years practical maintenance/grounds keeping experience, and experience in carpentry, plumbing and electrical maintenance (or similar), and basic personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must obtain and maintain a valid State of Georgia Pesticide Applicator's License. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class C Drivers License.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB: Under general supervision, performs general maintenance duties of County Parks and Recreation Department grounds and facilities including electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical repair, carpentry, janitorial services, playground, turf and athletic fields, and preventative maintenance. Operates both light and heavy equipment to perform maintenance duties. Overtime required during emergencies, project completion, or other times, as needed. Reports to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor or Parks Lead. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of light and heavy maintenance equipment and machines. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to forty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to one hundred pounds. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ALL FUNCTIONS MAY NOT BE PERFORMED BY ALL INCUMBENTS Performs a variety of task relating to the maintenance and upkeep to an assigned sports/leisure facility; supervises maintenance projects occurring in assigned building location including the application of pesticides; performs minor renovation of facilities as needed including minor construction, electrical and plumbing repairs, etc. Performs a variety of grounds keeping duties such as mowing grass, cleaning lawns and parking lots, watering grass, and maintaining lawns and other flora; operates heavy equipment, such as front-end loaders and a back hoe in the execution of these duties. Performs numerous tasks to maintain lawns such as mowing, watering, planting, and fertilizing grass and flowers. Operates lawn maintenance equipment such as weedeaters, blowers, edgers, chainsaws, and push mowers to perform tasks safely and correctly; performs minor and major repairs on equipment as needed. Assists with the leveling of ball fields, clearing of ditches for drainage, etc.; operates light maintenance equipment such as tractors, mowers, etc.; performs small engine repair and minor mechanical repair on equipment as needed. Maintains parking lots and keeps them free of litter. Performs janitorial and floor maintenance duties for various recreation buildings which includes vacuuming, mopping, emptying wastebaskets, etc. Installs and maintains various park equipment such as trashcans, benches, tables, signage, etc. Communicates with co-workers, immediate supervisor, other County personnel, and the public to provide assistance, receive instructions, exchange information, and complete daily job-related activities.
Assists in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems. Installs and maintains various fencing systems. Utilizes a variety of equipment in the performance of job duties including a mower, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, and various hand tools such as a rake, shovel, tractor, etc. Performs playground inspection. Assists in the daily preparation of County athletic fields for utilization in season by grading infields, mowing grass, chalking base lines, setting up various styles of goals, lining boundary lines, etc. Maintains greenway trails. Maintains a daily log of all work/repairs performed. Performs a variety of landscaping construction projects such as planting flowers and shrubs, building flowerbeds and boxes, and building boxes for facility signs. Applies various fertilizers/herbicides/pesticides to maintain ball fields and parks and other County-owned facilities; maintains daily log of herbicide/pesticide applications. Assist with County-wide special event and recreation programming operations; assists with large athletic tournament operations; performs pavilion/facility rental setup and cleanup on weeknights and weekends. Maintains daily preventive maintenance equipment logs and other daily records including pesticide records. May supervise seasonal or community service workers.
