Job description

Position: Educational Assistant - Elementary School.
Position Type: Classified, Part time
Contract Hours: 7.5 Hours per day
Contract Days: 154
Salary: $27.34/hour

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
**Note**: This position is for assisting with special needs students at the elementary level, this may include changing diapers and working with non-verbal communicative students. The position is dependent on the continued enrollment of the students.
Duties will be performed consistently and accurately and include, but may not be limited to:
  • Provide individual and small group support of special education students within classroom(s) and the special education room, under the direction of a teacher or administrator.
  • Assist the teacher in lesson planning as directed.
  • Perform instructional activities under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher as approved by the building principal or Superintendent.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as assigned.
  • Supervise students on the playground as assigned during school time.
  • Utilize appropriate methods for student management and control.
  • Covers for the Secretary in the building office as assigned.
  • Promptly report any disciplinary issues/concerns or accidents to the building principal.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or Superintendent.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
The ability to effectively carry out the essential functions of the position. The ability to communicate and build professional relationships with students, teachers, parents, community patrons, administrators and other authorized personnel. The ability to maintain discipline and to cope with student behavior in a mature, corrective manner. Should possess word processing skills and be computer literate. Prior work experience with special education students in classroom or school settings is preferred.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education; or Associate's (or higher) degree; or the ability to obtain a para-educator certificate in reading, writing, and mathematics.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to periodically lift up to 25 pounds. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, sit, and reach. Must be able to read orally and write legibly.
