Position Summary:
The Analytics Engineer, Media will bridge the gap between raw media data received from first- and third-party sources and the Data Strategy and Analytics ("DSA")-managed Fan Data Platform, ensuring that all media data is transformed into a standardized format for advanced analytics, AI product development, and data enablement. This role, reporting to the Business Intelligence Platforms Lead, will be DSA's expert in data received from Nielsen, our media partners (NBC / Peacock, Amazon Prime, and ESPN), and other managed data sources related to media and content consumption.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Overseedata modelingfor all media and content related data at theNBA

  • Lead the migration of historical viewership data from its current data repository to the NBA's central Fan Data Platform

  • Write business requirements for technical resources to follow to ensure data products meet the needs of stakeholders and the business

  • Develop and manage the semantic layer for media and content data ensuring that end-user analyst have a clean, readily available dataset to analyze and on top of which can be built data science models

  • Establish documentation, in conjunction with internal tools like Alation and Confluence, to provide a comprehensive overview of media and content data and enhance the ease of understanding for stakeholders

  • Lead QA efforts for all media- and content-related data, including developing tests to uncover potential issues,leveragingautomation and internal tools toassistin ongoing anomalydetectionand developing and executing processes to remediate errors

  • Serve as the internal subject-matter expert on media and content data, consulting with business stakeholders on current and future data needs from partners, shaping projects and expected outputs based on the data and technology we have and helping shape the communications and storytelling around the media and content business

  • Work with DSA's Data Science team on data modeling efforts for the purposes of advanced analytics and ML model building

  • Develop proprietary forecast models for viewership at a game level with the ability to alter the forecast based on developments at the player level

  • Work with external media partners and third-party data providers to secure new data or new ways of analyzing media and content data

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated abilityto develop in collaborative git projects in cloud-based data infrastructure (e.g., Azure DevOps/GitHub, Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift,dbtCloud)

  • Advanced understanding of structuring data provided by first-party media and content providers as well as third-party syndicated providers

  • Advanced knowledge of Nielsen software such as NNTV andNPower(or similar)

  • Extensive knowledge of the analysis of content across linear,digitaland SVOD/AVOD platforms

  • Deep knowledge of audience estimates including the creation of forecasting methods or models

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor's degreerequiredwith a technical or quantitative field preferred

  • 5+years experiencedelivering insights from syndicated media measurement tools and first-party data

  • Experience in sports, media and entertainment preferred but notrequired
