Job description

Position Overview
The Grand Junction River Hawks are seeking a dynamic and experienced Play by Play Announcer to be the voice of our NAHL hockey team. This role is responsible for delivering engaging and insightful live commentary for all games, bringing the excitement of River Hawks hockey to our fans. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the game, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for sports broadcasting. This position reports to the Team Operations Manager and is integral to enhancing the fan experience.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide compelling and accurate live play-by-play commentary for all Grand Junction River Hawks home and away games.
  • Engage the audience with insightful analysis, storytelling, and real-time updates throughout broadcasts.
  • Conduct pre-game, intermission, and post-game interviews with coaches, players, and team personnel.
  • Collaborate closely with the broadcast production team, media relations, and team staff to ensure seamless game coverage.
  • Contribute to the creation of additional content, such as player features, team news, and promotional announcements.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and represent the Grand Junction River Hawks organization with integrity at all times.
  • Manage and integrate relevant statistics and historical data into broadcasts.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Play by Play Announcer, with a strong preference for hockey or other professional sports.
  • Exceptional verbal communication and articulation skills, with a clear and energetic delivery style.
  • In-depth knowledge of hockey rules, strategies, and player dynamics.
  • Ability to improvise and react quickly to live game situations.
  • Familiarity with broadcast equipment and software is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for conducting interviews and working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.
  • A demo reel or portfolio of previous play-by-play work is suggested.

Compensation
This is a contracted position. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience, discussed during the interview process.
