As a Staff Software Engineer at Verily, you will independently guide our technical direction, taking full ownership of the architecture and scalability of several core software systems. You will turn intricate business targets into comprehensive technical strategies, directly impacting Verily's master technology roadmap. Leveraging your profound software design expertise, you will resolve our most complex technical difficulties while upholding excellent standards for system reliability and performance.
As a key member of the Verily Me team, you will help build and scale the central "front door" experience across Verily's entire consumer ecosystem. Verily Me serves as the unified entry point connecting users seamlessly to our consumer offerings, chronic disease management programs, and cutting-edge clinical research solutions.
Moving beyond individual execution, you will serve as an influential voice throughout the organization. You will collaborate cross-functionally to drive project success and mentor fellow engineers to cultivate a culture of engineering excellence.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end design, delivery, and testing of large-scale, compliant software systems that align directly with Verily's high-impact strategic goals.
  • Take highly undefined problem spaces and independently translate them into structured software plans, predictable timelines, and concrete technical execution for the team.
  • Drive systemic improvements in tooling, documentation, and development workflows to resolve root-cause defects and optimize overall team productivity.
  • Empower the engineering organization by guiding architectural decisions, leading technical discussions, and mentoring junior engineers to scale their capabilities.
  • Partner across engineering, product, and cross-functional teams to define robust requirements, clear critical roadblocks, and shape the platform's strategic direction.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience in software engineering.
  • 8+ years experience developing and maintaining reliable, scalable, and secure products and services in production in Go, Python, C++, or similar programming languages.
  • Prior experience with cloud technologies: Google Cloud Platform/Amazon Web Services/Azure or other cloud providers, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Backstage, or related tools.
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design with strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication skills in scenarios like deriving requirements from customers, articulating the scope of a problem, or documenting a proposed system design.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with microservices, software delivery platforms, DevSecOps, continuous integration, and release management processes.
  • 2+ years experience working in a centralized developer platform team.

This role is eligible for Verily-sponsored immigration support.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $205,000 - 230,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
