You’ll turn customer ideas into clear, competitive quotations that guide smart business decisions. As an Estimating Engineer within Intek Plastics, you’ll partner with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Tooling to translate RFQs, drawings, and CAD into accurate part and tooling cost models.

A day in the role

Morning might start with a new RFQ: you download files, review specs and CAD, and map out material, labor, tooling, and secondary operations. By midday, you’re confirming supplier quotes for tooling and materials, checking manufacturability, and noting factors that could influence cost or lead time. You’ll capture everything in estimating databases, update quote trackers, and brief leaders on status. When design changes arrive, you revise the quote quickly and clearly—supporting the team as the primary technical resource and backing up the estimator when needed.

What you will do
  • Extract scope from customer RFQs, prints, specifications, and CAD models to prepare competitive quotations.
  • Build part and tooling cost models using established estimating procedures.
  • Analyze material, labor, tooling, and secondary operations to ensure precise pricing.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Tooling to gather inputs.
  • Maintain quote files, costing worksheets, and all supporting documentation.
  • Assess manufacturability and highlight technical considerations that could affect cost or lead time.
  • Solicit and coordinate supplier quotations for tooling, raw materials, and outsourced services.
  • Revise quotes based on design updates, customer feedback, or evolving project requirements.
  • Track activity, maintain estimating databases, and report status to leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement in estimating processes, tools, and cost accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for the estimation team and provide backup coverage for the estimator role.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years in manufacturing within a technical capacity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Strong analytical problem solver with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Active listener able to clarify both business and technical requirements.
  • Self-directed and collaborative; operates effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Highly organized; able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with ERP or computerized manufacturing systems.
  • Comfort with CAD-based drafting/design tools.
  • Background in tooling, plastics development, machining, or injection molding.
Physical requirements
  • Standard office activities such as sitting, bending, reaching, and twisting.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
