Job description

Role Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting SPR Flexible solutions projects, facility expansions, and engineering installations. This role works closely with architects, design engineering firms, OEMs, and contractors to ensure new equipment and infrastructure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification. The engineer will coordinate technical requirements, assist in layout development, manage site activities, support commissioning, and act as the technical liaison between internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Planning & Coordination
    1. Support facility layout development in collaboration with architects and design engineers.
    2. Assist in the planning and scheduling of CapEx projects, including equipment installations, utilities, and building modifications.
    3. Prepare project timelines, track progress, and escalate risks or delays.
    4. Review technical drawings, equipment specifications, and installation requirements
  2. OEM & Contractor Management
    1. Coordinate with OEMs on equipment delivery, site requirements, commissioning steps, and training plans.
    2. Work with contractors (electrical, mechanical, civil, HVAC, etc.) to ensure installations meet scope, safety, and performance standards.
    3. Conduct site readiness checks and verify mechanical/electrical utilities are prepared for equipment installation.
    4. Support on bidding processes and vendor evaluations as needed.
  3. Installation & Commissioning Support
    1. Participate directly in new equipment installation, alignment, start-up, and functional testing.
    2. Validate that equipment is performing to specification and document any deviations.
    3. Assist with troubleshooting during commissioning and handoff to operations.
    4. Develop or assist with work instructions, SOPs, and training materials for operators and maintenance teams.
  4. Technical Documentation & Compliance
    1. Maintain accurate project documentation: layouts, utility requirements, checklists, change orders, and commissioning reports.
    2. Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and environmental requirements.
    3. Support internal audits and permitting activities when required.
  5. Cross-Functional Support
    1. Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Safety and Quality to ensure projects align with operational needs.
    2. Provide technical feedback during design reviews, feasibility evaluations, and equipment selection.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related Engineering field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in equipment installation, technical service, design engineering, industrial construction, or project engineering.
  • Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, and contractor coordination.
  • Ability to read/interpret technical drawings: mechanical, electrical, P&ID, architectural, and layout plans.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing environments (packaging, plastics, converting, printing, or similar).
  • Familiarity with industrial utilities: compressed air, chilled water, HVAC, electrical distribution, and rigging.
  • Experience working with OEMs.
