Maintenance Technician – Plastic Injection Molding

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Maintenance

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Classification: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment and facility systems. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and performing preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment.

Plastic injection molding maintenance experience is REQUIRED. Candidates must have hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plastic injection molding machines and related production equipment.

Experience working with Toshiba, Nissei, Toyo, Battenfeld, Welltec, and/or Engel injection molding machines is highly preferred. Experience with Wittmann and/or Sepro robotic systems is also strongly preferred.

Required Plastic Injection Molding Experience

Candidates MUST have previous hands-on maintenance experience in a plastic injection molding manufacturing environment.

Experience with some or all of the following equipment is required/preferred:

Injection Molding Robots

Candidates should be comfortable troubleshooting and performing maintenance on injection molding machinery and associated automated equipment. Experience with multiple machine brands is a plus, but candidates should have demonstrated practical experience working with at least some of the equipment listed above.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on plastic injection molding machines, robots, and production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair plastic injection molding machines and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and take appropriate corrective action to minimize production downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain injection molding robots and automated material-handling equipment.
  • Work closely with production personnel to identify and correct inconsistent machine performance.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints, manuals, and equipment specifications.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and specialized maintenance equipment.
  • Perform machine inspections, operational testing, adjustments, and repairs.
  • Assist with equipment installation, setup, modification, and relocation.
  • Complete preventive maintenance schedules, work orders, machine records, and maintenance documentation.
  • Maintain and repair production equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance calls.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are operating in accordance with established safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance area and assist with general production-floor housekeeping.
  • Communicate effectively with production personnel, maintenance management, vendors, and other departments.
  • Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Required: Previous industrial maintenance experience in a plastic injection molding environment.
  • Required: Hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining plastic injection molding machines.
  • Experience with one or more of the following injection molding machine manufacturers: Toshiba, Nissei, Toyo, Battenfeld, Welltec, or Engel.
  • Experience with Wittmann and/or Sepro robots is strongly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, machine mechanics, and basic electronics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment using electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and written instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond quickly to equipment failures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical school, industrial maintenance program, or trades apprenticeship.
  • Experience maintaining multiple brands of plastic injection molding machines.
  • Experience troubleshooting injection molding robots and automation systems.
  • Experience with PLCs, sensors, motors, controls, and automated production equipment.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in a high-volume plastics or manufacturing environment.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily indoors throughout a manufacturing and production environment.
  • Must be able to move throughout the production floor and access various pieces of machinery.
  • Must be able to occasionally climb onto or descend from equipment and work at floor level.
  • Must be able to lift, move, position, transport, or install equipment and materials as required.
  • May occasionally work at or above shoulder level while using hand or power tools.
  • Must be comfortable working around operating manufacturing equipment, machinery, noise, and other typical production-floor conditions.
  • Must have the ability to visually inspect equipment, identify components, distinguish colors, and judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, and other personnel regarding maintenance and production needs.
