Job description

Description
The prestigious New York Athletic Club, one of the world's premier private clubs, founded in 1868 located on Central Park South in Manhattan is seeking a full-time skilled painter to join our team.
Responsibilities.
  • Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
  • Fill and patch openings, cracks, and holes with appropriate material (e.g. tape, plaster, spackle, etc.)
  • Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right color or texture
  • Paint surfaces to high standard according to instructions and trade requirements with various tools
  • Apply varnish and other finishes to best match like conditions
  • Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions and departmental rules

Requirements
  • Proven experience as a painter and wallpaper installer
  • Experience in touch up and refinishing wood surfaces and furniture a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them
  • Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction wall preparation and painting techniques
  • Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns, joint tape, putty knife, spatula, etc.)
  • Good basic math skills
  • Conscientious with great attention to detail
  • Physically able to sit, stand, kneel, lift and climb ladders.
  • Work independently or as a team.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • High school diploma; successful completion of an apprenticeship
