Job description

Position Summary

The Plasma Operator is responsible for safely operating CNCplasma cutting equipment to process steel plate and structural materialsaccording to work orders, blueprints, and customer specifications. This roleplays a key part in supporting Willbanks Metals Inc.'s steel fabrication anddistribution operations by producing accurate parts, maintaining equipment, andupholding quality and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

       Set up and operate CNC plasma cutting equipmentand related material handling equipment in accordance with establishedprocedures.

       Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, andpart drawings to determine material type, thickness, cutting path, andtolerances.

       Select appropriate consumables, cuttingprograms, and tooling based on material specifications and job requirements.

       Verify that correct, traceable material is usedfor each job and that heat numbers and identification are maintained whenrequired.

       Load and unload plate and structural steel ontothe plasma table using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material handlingequipment.

       Monitor machine operation, adjust settings asneeded, and troubleshoot minor issues to maintain cut quality and productivity.

       Perform basic nesting, part layout, and programselection using the plasma control interface and/or associated software astrained.

       Inspect finished parts using measuring tools(tape measures, squares, calipers, micrometers, etc.) to verify dimensions andquality.

       Perform routine preventive maintenance on plasmaequipment, torches, filters, and support systems and report any needed repairs.

       Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work areain accordance with company 5S and housekeeping expectations.

       Accurately record production information,material usage, and work order status in the company's software or paperwork asrequired.

       Follow all company safety policies andprocedures, including the proper use of PPE and safe operation of materialhandling equipment.

       Assist in training new operators andcross-training in other fabrication processes as needed.

       Perform other related duties as assigned tosupport overall plant operations.

Qualifications

       High school diploma or equivalent required.

       Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating aCNC plasma cutting machine or related metal fabrication equipment preferred.

       Previous experience in a manufacturing,fabrication, or industrial environment required.

       Ability to read and interpret blueprints,technical drawings, and job specifications.

       Proficiency using precision measuringinstruments such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.

       Previous experience operating forklifts,overhead cranes, or other material handling equipment preferred; willingness toobtain required certifications.

       Basic computer skills and ability to work withCNC interfaces and production software after training.

       Strong attention to detail, quality, and safework practices.

       Ability to work independently with minimalsupervision and as part of a team.

       Good problem-solving skills and ability toidentify and communicate equipment or quality issues promptly.

Physical Requirements

       Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach forextended periods of time during the shift.

       Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull up to50 pounds and occasionally more with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.

       Ability to work in a production environment withexposure to noise, heat, dust, and moving equipment.

       Ability to wear required personal protectiveequipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe footwear,etc.).

Schedule

This is a full-time, hourly position. Standard shifts mayvary (8-hour, 10-hour, or 12-hour shifts) based on business needs. Typicalworkdays are Monday through Saturday, with overtime as required to meetproduction and customer demands.
