Position Summary

The Laboratory Analyst provides accurate laboratory analytical services which support production requirements. This role assists with process monitoring and optimization and to certify the quality of product and effluent produced at the Methanex Geismar site.

Position Responsibilities
  • Provides an accurate and efficient analytical service.
  • Supports the provision of laboratory services to customers through method development, testing and trials, troubleshooting and the supply of technical advice.
  • Responds to requests for support outside of normal office hours to provide continuity of the laboratory service.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots problems with laboratory equipment and methodology.
  • Performs scheduled quality control checks on instruments.
  • Analyzes quality control samples and takes appropriate actions on any resulting data which falls outside predetermined limits.
  • Carries out all aspects of sample analysis.
  • Sets up and calibrates laboratory instruments.
  • Interprets laboratory instrument results.
  • Enters results into laboratory database.
  • Reports results in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Compares results with plant data, informing plant Operators of results which may have an impact on plant operation.
  • Assists other members within the Technical Department with other work as requested from time to time.
  • Interprets laboratory results through process knowledge.
  • Project work or additional responsibilities as requested by the Laboratory Lead.
  • Suggests and implements improvements to the Lab Quality Management System.
  • Contributes to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and as a team member demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect and professionalism, demonstrated through feedback from team and leaders.
  • Undertakes all aspects of the role through living the Methanex values.
  • Conducts all business in a manner which supports the Responsible Care ethic.

  • Responsible for ensuring awareness of all controlled documents relating to this position as per Document Awareness Report from Document Management Database.
  • Contributes to the 'operational excellence' for Methanex USA as an effective member of the Technical Department.
Position Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate Degree in Chemistry or other related Science discipline preferred
  • Minimum 1-5 years relevant chemistry laboratory experience in manufacturing or related industry
  • Experience with the operation of laboratory Instruments
  • Understands the relationship between the laboratory services provided and the operations of the plant
  • Demonstrated competency in the use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office and database software
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Has the flexibility necessary to cope with varied working arrangements which may be required occasionally to meet the needs of the manufacturing operation
  • Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule
