Manager Once Removed: Plant Manager

Level of Work: 2H

Purpose of Role

Through effective leadership and management, the Shift Manager must drive the critical performance metrics of Safety, Job Training, Hiring and Onboarding, Growth and Development as well as perform high level root cause analysis on identified improvement opportunities. The Shift Manager, who at times may be the highest leadership position within the plant during evenings or weekends, must effectively collaborate and communicate with peers as well as other cross-functional teams in reliability, quality, shipping, and planning.

Areas of Accountabilities

People Development and Engagement

  • Coach, mentor, and lead shift team members and Rehrig Pacific employees in accordance with our Core Values and Strategic Vision.
  • Complete Day One Onboarding for all new employees in Spotlight.
  • Utilize the skill matrix process for recognition that drives company values, motivates, and retains associates.
  • Complete quarterly KA reviews for all associates, detailed annual PEAs, and continuous value-added feedback.
  • Identify the training needs of team members and provide opportunities for skill development. Implement training programs to enhance the capabilities of the team.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment by encouraging open communication, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Ensure the team is appropriately staffed and skilled to meet our score card goals. Assist the Talent Acquisition partners and Human Capital in recruitment, succession, and talent development.

Production Shift Team Operations and Productivity

  • Demonstrate safety leadership by driving accountability for safety within the production team, increase team safety awareness, ensure use of safe work practices and compliance with safety rules, and take immediate action to resolve safety concerns.
  • Coordinate work schedules of your assigned shift, engaging staffing agencies as needed to support fluctuating labor requirements set by the production manager.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, manage priorities, and ensure the team is aligned with organizational goals.
  • Monitor plant cleanliness, Food Safety requirements and (5S) expectations, practices and accountability.
  • Identify and act on lead measures to support plant achievement of scrap reduction and cycle efficiency targets.
  • Manage the planning and deployment of resources within the shift to efficiently meet customer expectations.
  • Monitor production performance indicators and take appropriate action to identify root cause of variances, engaging technical teams or management as necessary for resolution.

Communication and Relationship Building

  • Address conflicts and issues within the team promptly and constructively. Mediate disputes, facilitate discussions, and promote a positive working environment.
  • Build strong relationships with team members to understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations. Cultivate a sense of trust and mutual respect.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Preferred 3+ years of experience managing people in a manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred 1+ years of injection molding experience.
  • Excellent Leadership Skills including strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Technical aptitude – basic understanding of (or ability to quickly learn) mechanical systems, tooling, & plastic manufacturing.
  • Experience with JDE system a plus.
  • The ability to interact with and train a diverse group of personnel.
  • Ability to work cross functionally.
