The Role

As a Plan Consultant (PC), we draft and execute Fidelity's Pre-Approved Plan Document. We interpret plan provisions from outside plan documents and recognize potential issues in document and operational integrity. We also complete the contract (Service Agreement) between the client and Fidelity. During this process, the PC may need to negotiate the contract language.

  • Analyze plan documents to determine compatibility with Fidelity's Pre-Approved Plan Document, identifying IRC Section 411(d)(6) protected benefits, and ensuring that plan documents have been timely amended and updated for required law and regulation changes.

  • Review plan provisions as well as Fidelity services with employers (and consultants or attorneys, if they have one) to facilitate the selection of plan features.

  • Draft, negotiate, and finalize the creation of the Pre-Approved Adoption Agreement and Service Agreement

  • Communicate within the department and to appropriate business partners project progress, issues, and accomplishments.

  • Review and negotiate document exceptions to the Fidelity Pre-Approved Plan Document.

  • Negotiate service exceptions including modifications to the terms of the contract (Service Agreement).

  • Sign documents on behalf of FMTC and Fidelity Workplace Services.

  • Participate in process improvement and companywide initiatives.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Previous Defined Contribution retirement plan experience preferred

  • Strong understanding of ERISA and regulatory issues especially related to 401(k)/403(b) plans.

  • College Degree or equivalent experience preferred

  • CPA, CEBS, ERPA or ASPPA designation(s) preferred

  • Strong contract negotiation skills: ability to articulate a point of view in a compelling & succinct manner

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Application knowledge: Microsoft Office, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Salesforce, Plan Central, XTRAC

  • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time, applying proper time management skills and using good judgment to figure out the order of task completion

  • Demonstrated problem solving and client management abilities

  • Possess the ability to apply learning and comprehend and explain technical concepts

The Team

We are part of the Workplace Investing Implementation group. We work on conversions and corporate actions for plans in all market segments using the Fidelity Pre-Approved Plan Document. We work directly with employers, consultants, advisors, attorneys, and internal business partners. Our success mitigates risk for the client and Fidelity.

Fidelity's Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
