What does a typical workday look like for a Pittman in the forestry industry?
A typical day for a Pittman involves working outdoors in wooded areas, where you are responsible for identifying, cutting, and preparing timber according to environmental and safety guidelines. Your day often starts with equipment checks and safety briefings, followed by coordinated tree felling and processing with your team, sometimes in remote or rugged terrain. Pittmen frequently collaborate with other forestry workers including equipment operators and foresters to complete logging projects efficiently. Remaining adaptable to varying weather conditions and prioritizing safety at all times are crucial aspects of the job. Over time, experienced Pittmen may have the opportunity to advance into supervisory positions or specialized logging equipment roles.
Job description
- Prepare construction sites by clearing obstacles and debris
- Load and upload construction materials and equipment
- Operate various hand and power tools, including jackhammers and earth tampers
- Install traffic barricades, cones and safety markers
- Dig trenches and assist with earth moving tasks
- Help other skilled workers (equipment operators)
- Mix and spread concrete, asphalt and other construction materials
- Work environment: highways, roadways, infrastructure projects, residential and commercial road development areas
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Follow all company policies per Employee Handbook & Code of Conduct.
- Follow all company safety guidelines.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

High degree of safety awareness and safety discipline
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
Willing to travel and work away from home when and if required.
Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
