Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Gas Foreman leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the installation and repair of natural gas pipelines and/or joint trench utilities for power and telephone in a safe and correct manner. The position oversees ensuring crew safety and productivity, installing and pressure testing both mainline and service line gas pipe, as well as completing routine safety inspections and documentation. This position oversees the Line team and works with customers, senior management, and personnel from other departments.

  • Oversee and coordinate crew work to install natural gas pipelines via open-cut or directional drill methods.
  • Obtain all necessary licenses, permits, and materials for each job.
  • Oversee, accomplish, and ensure all work quality related to each project and assume full responsibility for its standard and timeliness.
  • Coordinate and delegate daily tasks to crew members related to digging and placing product.
  • Gain entry to site buildings for work crew and call-in utilities located at each project site.
  • Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to ensure the crews work safely.
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Train new hires and trainees to learn the trade.
  • Track employee hours and submit for payroll on a timely basis.
  • Call in utilities located at each project site.
  • Inspect existing utilities are properly identified and exposed, to ensure piping is correctly installed and fused, job meets customer specifications, and it meets company quality standards.
  • Drive, haul, and/or operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews in completion of work.
  • Keep the job(s) moving on time, clean up, and perform job restoration at the end of job.
  • Communicate with customers and inspectors.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • A High School Degree, or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with gas pipeline construction or maintenance, with 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Be proficiency in fusing, tapping, pressure testing, and purging
  • Must have a CDL Class A license, or obtain one within 30 days of hire date
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • Must have knowledge of gas, and how to safely work with it
  • Knowledge of customer’s specifications, being able to read and interpret prints
  • Be proficiency in all phases of the line in construction
  • Must follow proper safety standards, procedures, and work practices according to MasTec and/or project customer, whichever standard is higher at all times
  • Ability to talk with customers’ inspectors and have a sense of customer service
  • Must have experience in operating heavy equipment and general construction
  • Ability to visually inspect fusion or welded joints, spot utilities, and locate marks on the ground by color
  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships
  • Precise hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Ability to work outdoors, even in extreme weather conditions.

Previous experience with Atmos Gas is preferred.

This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.  

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
