What does a pipeline inspector do?

A pipeline inspector is responsible for examining pipelines to ensure they are safe, efficient, and compliant with regulations. Their duties include visually inspecting pipes, using specialized equipment to detect leaks or corrosion, and documenting any issues found. Inspectors often work on oil, gas, water, or sewage pipelines, and may also oversee repair and maintenance activities to prevent environmental hazards and ensure public safety.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in pipeline inspection, and how can they be addressed?

Pipeline inspection professionals often encounter challenges such as working in remote or hazardous environments, dealing with varying weather conditions, and ensuring strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Staying up to date with advances in inspection technologies, like smart pigs or drones, can help improve efficiency and accuracy. Building strong communication with maintenance and engineering teams is also crucial for promptly addressing any identified issues, ensuring a safe and reliable pipeline operation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pipeline inspector, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pipeline Inspector, you need a strong understanding of pipeline systems, inspection protocols, and safety regulations, often backed by relevant technical training or certification (such as API 570 or NACE). Familiarity with inspection tools like ultrasonic testers, magnetic flux leakage devices, and computerized reporting systems is crucial. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These skills ensure pipelines are safe, compliant, and efficiently maintained, minimizing environmental risks and operational downtime.

What is the difference between Pipeline Inspection vs Pipeline Welding?

AspectPipeline InspectionPipeline Welding
Required CertificationsASNT Level II, NDT certificationsWelding certifications (e.g., AWS, ASME)
Work EnvironmentInspection sites, pipelines, remote locationsWelding sites, construction areas, fabrication facilities
Industry UsageOil & gas, utilities, infrastructureOil & gas, pipeline construction, maintenance

Pipeline Inspection and Pipeline Welding are both essential in pipeline projects but serve different roles. Inspection focuses on assessing the integrity and safety of pipelines using non-destructive testing, while welding involves joining pipeline sections to ensure structural strength. Both require specialized certifications and are critical in maintaining pipeline safety and efficiency.

How do you become a pipeline inspector?

To become a pipeline inspector, individuals typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, followed by specialized training or technical education in pipeline systems, safety protocols, and inspection techniques. Many employers prefer candidates with experience in construction, welding, or engineering, and obtaining certifications such as API 570 or API 653 can improve job prospects. Inspectors often work in the field, using tools like ultrasonic testers and visual inspection methods to ensure pipeline integrity and safety.

Job description

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on, people-first SMB Account Executive Manager to lead and scale our SMB sales team. In this role, you'll be responsible for hiring, coaching, and developing a team of Account Executives who drive growth and adoption across our SMB customer base.

As the SMB AE Manager, you'll own your team's number, build the systems and rituals that make reps successful, and act as a force multiplier for a high-performing and deeply customer-driven organization. You'll balance day-to-day coaching with the strategic work of building a repeatable, scalable sales motion. This is a full-time, hybrid role available in select cities.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of SMB Account Executives, owning their ramp, performance, and career growth
  • Own and forecast your team's pipeline and revenue targets, holding the team accountable to consistent execution
  • Hire and onboard top sales talent as the team scales - raise the bar with every hire
  • Run high-quality coaching: deal reviews, call coaching, pipeline inspection, and 1:1s that drive measurable improvement
  • Build and refine the SMB sales playbook - codify what works and scale it across the team
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Customer Success to surface customer feedback and influence the roadmap
  • Help shape a new and fast-scaling business motion - bring ideas, test quickly, and iterate

What You'll Bring

  • 2+ years of sales management experience, leading a team of quota-carrying AEs, ideally in SaaS
  • A track record of full-cycle closing success before moving into management
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, and develop AEs to consistently hit and exceed targets
  • Strong command of pipeline management, forecasting, and sales analytics
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a genuine customer-first mindset
  • A founder mentality - comfortable operating in ambiguity and building process where little exists
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and modern sales technologies
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% for onsite office visits
