Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager in Pipeline Construction to support the successful execution of pipeline construction projects from project award through final closeout. This position is responsible for coordinating project activities, managing project costs and schedules, supporting field operations, maintaining strong client relationships, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements.

The ideal candidate has hands-on pipeline or heavy construction field experience. This position requires an individual who can effectively bridge the gap between field operations, project administration, the client, subcontractors, vendors, and company management.

This is a mid-level project management position intended for an individual who has developed a solid foundation in construction and field operations and is ready to take increasing responsibility for project execution and financial performance.

Project Management & Execution

  • Manage assigned pipeline construction projects from project handoff through completion and closeout.
  • Coordinate project activities between field operations, clients, engineering, procurement, subcontractors, vendors, and company management.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential schedule, cost, safety, quality, and contractual issues.
  • Participate in project planning, mobilization, construction execution, commissioning, demobilization, and closeout activities.
  • Coordinate multiple project activities and priorities while maintaining focus on schedule, budget, quality, and safety.
  • Conduct regular project and jobsite meetings and maintain effective communication with project stakeholders regarding project status, risks and potential changes clearly and professionally.

Cost & Schedule Management

  • Assist with development and maintenance of project budgets and cost forecasts.
  • Monitor labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and other project costs.
  • Review project cost reports and identify variances from budget.
  • Assist with monthly forecasting, earned value/progress tracking, and project financial reporting.
  • Monitor project schedules and work with field personnel to identify potential delays and develop corrective actions.
  • Review production quantities and project progress to ensure work is being performed in accordance with the project schedule and contract requirements.

RFI, Change Order & Contract Administration

  • Manage and maintain the project's Request for Information (RFI) process, including preparation, submission, tracking, and resolution.
  • Review plans, specifications, drawings, and contract documents to identify discrepancies, conflicts, and potential changes in scope.
  • Maintain and track change orders and potential change order logs.
  • Ensure field changes and extra work are properly documented through daily reports, correspondence, photographs, quantities, time records, and other supporting documentation.
  • Maintain organized project records and correspondence necessary to support the company's contractual position and recognize when project activities may create additional cost or schedule exposure.

Client & Stakeholder Relations

  • Serve as a professional point of contact for clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal personnel.
  • Participate in client meetings, progress meetings, coordination meetings, and project reviews.

Field Operations Support

  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the Project Superintendent and field management team.
  • Understand pipeline construction methods, sequencing, equipment requirements, production considerations, and typical field challenges.
  • Participate in project site walks and inspections as necessary.

Procurement & Subcontractor Coordination

  • Assist with procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.
  • Review subcontractor performance, progress, documentation, and invoicing.
  • Assist with subcontractor scope development, bid evaluation, and field contract administration.
  • Identify procurement or subcontractor issues that may affect project cost or schedule.

Safety & Quality

  • Promote and support the company's commitment to safety, quality, and environmental compliance by leading by example.
  • Ensure project activities are performed in accordance with company policies, project requirements, and applicable regulations.

Project Closeout

  • Coordinate project closeout activities and ensure required documentation is completed.
  • Assist with final quantities, billing, change orders, claims, punch-list items, warranties, and turnover documentation.
  • Participate in project lessons-learned and post-project reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in pipeline project management, oil & gas, heavy civil, industrial construction, or a closely related construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction operations and field execution.
  • Working knowledge of standard RFI, submittal, change order, and contract administration processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents.
  • Experience working with project schedules, budgets, cost tracking, and project documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience with estimating, quantity tracking, cost forecasting, and project financial management.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, or similar project management/scheduling software.
  • Experience with project management information systems and electronic document-control systems.

Travel & Working Conditions

This position requires regular travel to pipeline construction project locations. The Project Manager should be prepared to spend extended periods at project sites depending on project requirements.

  • Work at active pipeline construction sites with uneven terrain and around equipment.
  • Occasional extended work hours outside of normal business hours based on project needs.
