POSITION SUMMARY

eX² Technology is seeking a Utility Locator Supervisor skilled in  managing underground utility locating operations, overseeing field personnel, and enforcing safety compliance. to join our team. As a Utility Locator Supervisor, you will coordinate daily locate schedules, investigate utility damages, and interpret complex infrastructure maps.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Team Leadership:  Supervise, manage, and evaluate employees and makes decisions about hiring, and discipline of employees.

•    Operations & Compliance:  Ensure that all safety protocols and regulations are followed, coordinate scheduling, and provide training and support to the team.

•    Technical Oversight: Reviewing as-built engineering drawings, blueprints, and GIS mapping data to resolve high-complexity field identification issues. 

•    Network Integrity: Prevent catastrophic fiber cuts to maintain uninterrupted data and telecommunication services.

•    Complex Mapping: Interpret fiber network schematics, splice diagrams, and telecommunication GIS databases.

•    Equipment Mastery: Train staff on high-frequency electronic locators.

•    Damage Audits: Lead investigations when telecom lines are damaged, documenting evidence for liability claims. 

•    Locator Audits: Conduct audits on locators to identify mistakes and misunderstandings, and to identify locators that require additional training. 

•    Ticket Management:  Respond to dig ticket requests from contractor crews to locate, identify and mark existing client infrastructure and meet compliance with Company, State and Federal processes, procedures, rules, and regulations when not engaged in supervisor duties.

•    Schedule Requirements:  Assist with staffing needs by covering shift for team members during illness, vacations or other absences.  Must be available on an on-call basis 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond promptly to property damage, emergencies and other urgent operational needs.  Must be willing and able to work more than 40 hours per week, including weekends, evenings and holidays, as business needs require.    


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

•    Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school;  or 4 - 7 years equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience

•    4 to 7 years of underground utility locating experience, alongside 1 to 3 years in a lead or supervisory capacity. 


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

•    Experience with complex urban underground utility infrastructure.

•    Experience in serving as firm-client liaison.

•    Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.

•    Experience in the use and basic maintenance of industry standard locating equipment.

•    Experience using basic communication and technical devices.

•    Deep familiarity with regional One-Call notification laws, damage investigation protocols, and electronic pipe/cable locating instruments. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical Demands

Capable of moving around on construction work sites, public streets, and parkways.  Capable of lifting up to 75lbs.  Ability to stand, walk, kneel, or sit for extended periods of time.  Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate computers and various measurement, locating and testing instruments.



OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Work Environment

Work safely outside in all weather conditions year-round.  Occasionally work in excavations areas and roadways.  Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is occasionally moderate to loud.


Language Skills

Communicates effectively in oral and written English technical language, both in interpreting requirements and providing reports and mentoring. 


Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.


Tools and Equipment

Must be capable of operating the following: 

•    Company-provided computer, including word processing and spreadsheet software

•    Company-provided vehicle

•    Phone, camera and GPS

•    Tape measure, wheel, various types of locating equipment, not including locating receiver/transmitter
