What are the typical job duties and work environments for pipe lining professionals?

Pipe lining professionals typically inspect, clean, and rehabilitate existing pipelines using specialized equipment and techniques such as cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining. The work often takes place in outdoor environments, underground, or within confined spaces, and may involve collaborating closely with engineers, project managers, and other utility workers. On any given day, responsibilities can include assessing pipe conditions with video inspection tools, preparing surfaces, mixing and applying lining materials, and performing leak or pressure tests. It is a hands-on, physically demanding role that rewards attention to detail and teamwork, with opportunities to advance to crew leader or supervisory positions as you gain experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed for pipe lining, and why are they important?

To succeed in Pipe Lining, you need strong mechanical aptitude, physical stamina, and experience working with plumbing or underground utility systems, often supported by a high school diploma or vocational training in pipe rehabilitation. Familiarity with tools and technologies like cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) equipment, CCTV inspection systems, and relevant safety certifications (such as OSHA) is highly valued. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members are essential soft skills. These qualifications ensure that pipe lining projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the quality standards required in utility infrastructure work.

What is pipe lining?

A pipe lining job involves installing a protective layer inside existing pipes to repair damage, prevent leaks, and extend their lifespan. This process, known as Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining, involves inserting a resin-coated liner into the pipe and curing it to create a seamless, durable surface. Pipe lining is a trenchless repair method, meaning it avoids extensive digging and disruption. It is commonly used for sewer lines, water pipes, and industrial piping systems. This technique helps restore structural integrity while minimizing costs and downtime.

CIPP Pipe Lining Specialist

Location: Dallas-Fort Worth Area (On-Site / Field-Based)

Position Type: Full-Time

Compensation and Type: $80-90k | Direct Hire

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a motivated CIPP Pipe Lining Specialist to join their field operations team. In this role, you will work alongside experienced professionals to execute trenchless pipe rehabilitation projects from start to finish. You’ll utilize advanced video inspection tools, high-pressure hydro-jetters, resin saturation systems, and precision curing equipment to solve complex pipe issues with minimal disruption to client properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Preparation & Set Up: Establish secure job sites, prepare specialized equipment, and maintain safety protocols throughout each project.
  • Camera Inspection & Cleaning: Perform video diagnostic inspections and operate mechanical cutters or hydro-jetting equipment to clear debris, scale, and root intrusions.
  • Resin Saturation ("Wet-Out"): Measure, mix, and thoroughly saturate flexible fabric liners with thermosetting epoxy resins.
  • Liner Insertion & Curing: Execute inversion or pull-in placement of wet liners through existing access points, applying air/water pressure and heat/UV light systems to cure the liner into a seamless new pipe.
  • Reinstatement & Quality Control: Operate remote-controlled robotic cutters to reopen covered branch connections and conduct final CCTV video inspections to verify structural integrity.
  • Maintenance & Support: Assist with routine equipment maintenance, shop upkeep, and post-job site cleanup while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications & Requirements

Absolute Must-Haves:

  • Direct Experience in CIPP Pipe Lining (trenchless pipe rehabilitation experience is required).
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and an eagerness to continue mastering technical skills.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy equipment (50+ lbs) and work in varied field/job site conditions.

Nice-to-Haves & Preferred Skills:

  • Basic mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience with equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow complex technical instructions and work seamlessly within a tight-knit team.
