Job description

The Utility Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of pipe, tube, hose, and electrical conduit. The Utility Fitter works under the direction of the Welding Supervisor to perform pipefitting and under the direction of the plant electrician to perform electrical rough-in.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cut, grind, thread, bend, and install pipe, tube, and electrical conduit
  • Selects and uses appropriate tools such as acetylene torch, pipe threader, bender
  • Assists electrician with electrical rough-in
  • Uses tools such as voltage tester, multimeter, and clamp meter to verify equipment is in a safe working condition. The Utilities Fitter does not energize or de-energize electrical equipment/infrastructure
  • Assists in rigging heavy equipment
  • Assists with assembly and disassembly of process equipment
  • Enter confined spaces
  • Perform Lock-Out, Tag-Out (LOTO) and energy isolation as required
  • Follows company & agency safety rules & regulations at all times
  • Operate a forklift, man-lift, overhead crane
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to select and use tools associated with the electrical trade such as multimeters, clamp meters, voltage testers, benders, fish tapes
  • Ability to safely work in the proximity of electrical equipment and infrastructure, including use of PPE, lock out/tag out, labeling of hazards
  • Ability to interpret electrical diagrams
  • Ability to specify conduit size & type and wire size & color
  • Familiar with conduit bodies and other electrical fittings
  • Knowledge of best practices including use of mechanical drains, drain wire, conduit support, ventilation, home runs, heat management, color-coding, and sealing

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, & LICENSES

  • Forklift Operator Certification
  • MEWP certification
  • Rigging Certification
