Job description

A specialty pharmacy management group is seeking an experienced Pharmacist in Charge to lead the opening and operations of a new specialty pharmacy. This direct hire opportunity is based in Houston, TX, with an anticipated start date of ASAP. The role offers the chance to shape pharmacy workflows and processes from the ground up in an innovative, collaborative environment.
Schedule & Location:

  • Monday through Friday, hours to be determined
  • Onsite in Houston, TX
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the designated Pharmacist in Charge, ensuring full compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and other applicable standards.
  • Manage pharmacy licensure, controlled substance oversight, and regulatory inspections.
  • Oversee daily operations, focusing on accurate dispensing, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols.
  • Lead onboarding of insurance contracts and coordinate with regulatory and accreditation bodies.
  • Supervise and mentor pharmacy staff, fostering quality standards and continuing education.
  • Collaborate with specialty care clinics and providers to optimize patient outcomes, access to medications, and formulary management.
  • Manage inventory controls, including procurement and handling of temperature-sensitive medications.
  • Investigate medication incidents and implement continuous quality improvement measures.
  • Participate in strategic planning to support pharmacy growth and value-based care initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced degree with an active, unrestricted pharmacist license eligible for PIC designation in Texas.
  • Prior PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience, specifically in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy settings (inpatient pharmacists will not be considered).
  • Strong knowledge of specialty medications, benefit investigation, prior authorization, and financial assistance processes.
  • Proficient with pharmacy software systems (QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx, WAM) and preferably experience with EMR or specialty pharmacy systems.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to engage effectively with patients, providers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and a proactive problem solver.
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to teamwork and patient-centered care.

This role includes a competitive compensation package ranging from $135,000 to $150,000, along with performance bonuses, equity stake options, and unlimited paid time off.
