Job description

Pinterest is looking for inquisitive, well-rounded Android engineers to join both our Platform and Product teams. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to advance the boundaries of mobile technology and user experiences. Whether you're building robust frameworks, creating innovative features, or prototyping new tools and ideas, your work will enable both Pinterest developers and engage millions of Pinners worldwide. We value courageous, creative thinkers-engineers ready to propose bold ideas, drive initiatives from vision to launch, and deliver at Pinterest scale.

The Platform team drives the core foundations that power Pinterest Mobile, focusing on frameworks, developer productivity, and advancing stability and velocity across the organization. Within Platform, the Builds and Client Testing group develops industry-leading tools and systems that enable fast, reliable builds for both iOS and Android, as well as comprehensive testing coverage across iOS, Android, and Web clients. By streamlining the processes to develop, validate, and ship code with confidence, the team ensures exceptional software quality while boosting productivity and innovation for engineers across Pinterest. Upcoming projects include expanding AI-powered capabilities for mobile developers, strengthening the health of our dependency graph, and improving the stability of web deployments.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and contribute to every stage of the engineering process-from rapid prototyping and A/B testing to architecting, building, and releasing features and frameworks that scale to millions of users.
  • Drive technical initiatives that benefit both users and engineers, e.g., modularization, scalable architecture, advanced media handling, dependency injection, and reusable UI components.
  • Uphold and advance code and system quality, ensuring excellence in foundational and shared components.
  • Work with industry-leading tools and practices: AI-driven development, build and test automation, comprehensive CI/CD pipelines.
  • Support and mentor peers, grow your expertise, and tackle high-impact projects across both the mobile product and platform landscape.
  • Use AI thoughtfully to accelerate execution, from drafting and prototyping to outlining and validating designs, always applying sound judgment and verification.
  • Ensure protection of sensitive data, uphold high integrity, and remain accountable for your decisions and deliverables.

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of professional Android experience (Product or Platform), delivering consumer or business-facing products at scale.
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in Android best practices and modern development, especially Kotlin and/or Java (e.g., Activity Lifecycle, memory management, modular app architecture).
  • Strong experience with Gradle, CI/CD, automated testing, and tools like Buildkite and Android Studio.
  • Habit of writing reliable, maintainable code designed for use by large engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated use of AI/ML tools to increase velocity and quality in your workflow, with a critical approach to evaluating and validating AI outputs.
  • High standards of ownership, safety, and accountability: you safeguard data, challenge assumptions, and never delegate responsibility for final deliverables to AI.
