Job Title: Bulk Driver

Department: Operations

FLSA Status: Nonexempt (Full-time)

Reports To: Operations Supervisor


Pinnacle Propane provides propane fuel and related equipment to residential, commercial, and wholesale customers, including the sale and lease of propane storage tanks. Bulk Drivers are responsible for the safe, efficient delivery of propane to customer locations, consistently upholding the highest standards of safety, reliability, customer service, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Safely load and deliver propane via bobtail truck to residential and commercial locations
  • Fill empty customer tanks of all sizes by pulling the hose from the truck to the tank location (Customer tanks may be located indoors or outdoors)
  • Perform all truck maintenance daily, verify all safety supplies are on the truck, keep inside and outside of the truck clean and orderly, and notify managers of any issues that need to be fixed
  • Maintain positive, friendly working relationships with all customers, meeting delivery window time frames and dependable and reliable expectations.
  • Conduct pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of the bobtail truck in compliance with DOT regulations, documenting all findings and reporting defects immediately
  • Perform safe connection, disconnection, and transfer of propane using proper hose handling, grounding, and bonding procedures to prevent static discharge
  • Verify customer tank levels, capacity, and system integrity before and after delivery, ensuring accurate fills and preventing overfill situations
  • Operate metering and ticketing systems to accurately record delivered gallons and capture customer signatures or confirmations when required
  • Identify and respond to propane leaks, system irregularities, or safety hazards, including executing emergency shutdown procedures when necessary
  • Maintain compliance with Hazmat regulations, including proper placarding, shipping papers, and emergency response information while in transit
  • Navigate delivery routes efficiently using routing systems or dispatch instructions, making real-time adjustments for weather, traffic, or customer needs
  • Provide basic customer education on propane safety, tank usage, and emergency contact procedures when interacting on-site
  • Ensure proper tank placement clearances and code compliance (NFPA 58 awareness) when servicing or observing customer systems
  • Participate in on-call or after-hours emergency delivery rotations, as required to support customer needs and business continuity
  • Complete and submit electronic or manual delivery documentation accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring alignment with billing and inventory systems
  • Monitor vehicle telemetry or onboard technology systems (if equipped) to support safe driving, route optimization, and compliance tracking
  • Adhere to company and regulatory requirements for hours of service (HOS) and maintain accurate logs (ELD or paper as applicable)
  • Assist with yard and bulk plant operations, including loading propane, inspecting storage tanks, and maintaining the cleanliness/safety of the facility
  • Represent the company professionally by responding courteously to customer inquiries or concerns in the field while maintaining safety as the top priority.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 +years of truck driving experience required
  • Oil, Gas, or Propane experience is highly preferred
  • Valid Class A, B, or C CDL (commercial driver’s license) required
  • Hazmat, Tanker, and Air Brakes endorsement indicated on license
  • Ability to operate in adverse weather conditions, including off-road
  • Ability to abide by all DOT rules and regulations
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, manuals, and reports
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Consistently demonstrates cooperative, team-oriented behavior
  • Safety conscious and understand safe work practices for operating in the oil and gas field and on the road
  • Maintain cleanliness and perform minor maintenance on equipment, as well as ensure equipment is mechanically sound and in good working order at all times, and report deficiencies to maintenance staff

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 50 pounds of force
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use fine motor skills to operate office equipment and/or machinery
  • Ability to properly drive and operate a company vehicle
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
  • Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
