Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the guidance of the Branch Director, the Sport Skills Instructor for Pickleball will provide instructions/lessons to individuals that have purchased sessions at the YMCA.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum age 20
  2. Must have at least 2 year's knowledge of pickleball rules, regulations, and industry trends

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity to perform detailed tasks
  2. Must have ability to lead and delegate to others and communicate effectively; both orally and in writing
  3. Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  4. Must be detail oriented and exhibit a high degree of accuracy and alertness
  5. Must demonstrate initiative in absence of supervision
  6. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  7. Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines
  8. Must possess ability to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality
  9. Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times

Job Requirements:

  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, O2, and Listen First Workshop in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  4. Possess a clear and complete understanding of pickleball rules and principals and have the ability to promote the sport in the community.
  5. Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch
  6. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  7. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch; including evenings and weekends

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Must possess ability to lead the instruction of participants and effectively supervise and motivate participants to reach their individual goals.
  2. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of and ability to demonstrate sport specific skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  3. Provide all sessions on YMCA property.
  4. Responsible for instructing and evaluating participants in accordance with YMCA guidelines, preparing session plans accordingly.
  5. Responsible for building effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents.
  6. Responsible for the safety of participants.
  7. Following and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  8. Responsible for being knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures.
  9. Reporting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form and providing to supervisor within 24 hours of event.
  10. Working hours as scheduled; including beginning and ending session on time; remaining after session to answer participant/parent questions as needed and cleaning up equipment.
  11. Attending all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
  12. Organizing and putting away needed session equipment. Reporting any facility or equipment irregularities to supervisor in writing.
  13. Submitting completed records on time (i.e. attendance, progress reports).
  14. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with pickleball players, community members, and stakeholders to enhance the program's reputation and participation.
  15. Responsible for conveying information on Sports and Sports performance programs as appropriate.
  16. Promoting pickleball events and tournaments at both the Pickle Center and other YMCA facilities to generate interest and participation in the community.
  17. Implementing marketing strategies to attract new players and increase participation in pickleball activities.
  18. Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising.
  19. Child Abuse Prevention - Responsible for adhering to boundary policies, attends required training, follows procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reports suspicious behaviors and policy violations, and complies with mandated reporting.
  20. All other duties as assigned.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: Ensuring growth in pickleball and development of new and innovative ways to promote the program to the community. High program and member retention rate. Positive written and oral comments from program participants and members regarding good experience in the program and about the staff. Branch Net Promoter score of 60%. High-performing, well-managed staff, resulting in increased employee retention.
