What does a picker in a warehouse do?

A Picker in a warehouse is responsible for locating and selecting items from inventory to fulfill customer orders. They use picking lists or handheld devices to find the correct products and quantities, then prepare these items for packing and shipping. The role requires attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to work on your feet for extended periods. Pickers play a key part in ensuring that orders are accurate and shipped on time, helping the warehouse operate smoothly.

To manage these effectively, it's important to stay organized, use ergonomic techniques to reduce fatigue, and communicate regularly with supervisors and team members about any obstacles. Many warehouses also provide training and technology, such as handheld scanners or automated picking systems, to help streamline processes and minimize errors.
