Job description

Lead Retirement Plan Specialist
About Basic Capital
Basic Capital is a fintech company disrupting America's $1T retirement industry by building the mortgage for retirement, unlocking market ownership, and making wealth accessible to every American. Our mission is to create products, platforms, and a credit marketplace that power a fundamentally new retirement system.
Our founding team includes leaders from Goldman Sachs, Uber, Block, Stripe, and Robinhood. We're backed by top investors such as Lux Capital, Forerunner Ventures, BoxGroup, SVAngel, Inspired Capital, and Henry Kravis. Based in SoHo, NYC, we're assembling a lean, high-performance team committed to reducing wealth inequality.
For more information, visit Basic Capital's website.
About the role
We're hiring a Lead Retirement Plan Specialist to be a senior operator on our team, a trusted guide to our customers, and an operational ERISA expert. You'll work directly with plan sponsors on plan design, onboarding, and the compliance work that keeps their plans running clean.
This is a senior seat on a small, high-leverage team. You'll shape how plan consulting actually works at a modern recordkeeper.
What you'll do
Consult with customers on plan design: eligibility rules, vesting schedules, safe harbor elections, match formulas, profit sharing, cross-tested designs. Recommend what actually fits the client.
Onboard new plans: sit with customers through setup, translate their intent into plan document elections, and de-risk the handoff to ongoing administration.
Help with year-end compliance: ADP/ACP, 410(b), 415, top-heavy, coverage testing, 5500 filings, 1099-Rs. Know where every plan stands. Partner with our external TPA on execution.
Handle corrections: failed testing, late deferrals, missed matches, eligibility errors. Scope the issue, pick the right correction method, get it done cleanly.
Translate the regs: SECURE 2.0, LTPTE, hardship sourcing, QACA formulas. Turn regulatory changes into concrete plan-level decisions for sponsors.
Shape the product: partner with engineering on what should be automated. Explain the edge cases that break every off-the-shelf system. Your tribal knowledge becomes product.
Write clearly: emails that plan sponsors and auditors both understand.
Who you are
5+ years of ERISA operational experience at a TPA, recordkeeper, or plan consulting firm. You've run year-end for a book of plans. You've handled corrections. You've explained a failed test to a founder.
Preferred: QKA, QPA, CPC, or ERPA. Some mix of credentials is a strong plus, but deep operational experience matters more than any single letter combination.
Technically deep on the operational side. You can talk through correction methods, coverage testing, and amendment timing without looking things up.
Customer-facing by instinct. You like sitting with plan sponsors and HR leads. You don't hide behind jargon.
Ambitious. You want to shape a function, not maintain one.
NYC-based or willing to relocate. This is an in-person role in Tribeca.
