Supervisor, Registered Nurse - Infusion provides professional nursing care in an outpatient clinical setting in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, Board of Nursing rules, and organizational policies and procedures. The RN is responsible for the safe administration of infusion therapies related to multiple specialties, including rheumatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology and primary care. This role collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver highquality, patient-centered care across the continuum of ambulatory infusion services.
The Infusions Nurse Supervisor works in collaboration with the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) and is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the infusion nursing team including supporting with staff education, onboarding, and training of new hires.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Essential Functions:

• Supervises assigned staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care delivery in alignment with clinical and organizational standards. Monitors the compliance with standards of care for onsite treatments and procedures, administration of medications, as well as timely and quality clinical workflows.
• Responsible for approving payroll, time off requests, administering performance evaluations in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, training, and orientation of new hires, and for coaching and counseling staff.
• Ensures all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards, and Central Health Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and Procedures.
• Verifies provider orders, treatment plans, infusion protocols, laboratory results, and pre-medication requirements prior to medication administration. Calculates infusion rates and evaluates patient response, adjusting care based
  on assessment findings and provider orders. Performs systematic and ongoing patient assessments, including physical assessment, psychosocial evaluation, medication reconciliation, allergy review, and prior infusion tolerance.
• Initiates and maintains peripheral intravenous access and accesses implanted venous access devices consistent with scope of practice and organizational policy.
• Administers infusion medications, including biologic and immunomodulatory agents, utilizing the correct medication, dose, route, rate, time, and technique. Continuously monitors patients during and after infusion for adverse reactions, side effects, or complications. Implements appropriate nursing interventions for infusion reactions and escalates care per protocol and provider direction. Facilitates dose adjustments by assessing patient condition, reviewing laboratory values, consulting treatment plans, and communicating clinical concerns to the provider.
• Perform and maintain central venous access care, including PICC line flushing, routine maintenance, and sterile dressing changes, in accordance with organizational policy and evidence-based practice. Assess PICC line sites for complications (e.g., infection, occlusion, dislodgement) and initiate appropriate interventions and escalation as needed. Ensure proper documentation of PICC line care and maintenance and adherence to infection prevention and safety standards.
• Coordinates care across the infusion process, including scheduling, patient preparation, and follow-up. Communicate effectively with providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare team members regarding patient status, infusion tolerance, and clinical changes.
• Provides timely communication and documentation for referring providers and specialty teams as required.
• Provides individualized patient and family education on: Disease processes and treatment goals, medication purpose, side effects, and safety considerations, symptom management and when to seek medical attention.
• Supports patient self-management and connects patients with appropriate community and health system resources.
• May support with pre-visit planning PVP, in-basket managment, rooming and wrap up activities, other clinical duties following established protocols, competency validation, and in accordance with Standing Delegating Orders (SDOs).
• Enhances the patient experience by addressing and resolving patient issues in a timely manner.
• Will serve as a resource and trainer for new team members as the infusion service expands.
• Support oversight of health center equipment needs, infection prevention standards, medication management, quality control checks, and emergency protocols.
• Practices in compliance with Texas Nurse Practice Act and BON rules, organizational policies and procedures, safety, infection prevention, and medication administration standards.
• Participates in performance improvement and Lean process initiatives, competency validation, staff development, and continuing education.
• Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational guidelines.
• Participates in daily unit huddles, clinic meetings, patient conferences, and education sessions—both in person and virtually—as required to support patient care and quality initiatives.
• Supports organizational initiatives to promote and maintain positive workplace culture.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to guide and develop nursing staff through coaching and performance oversight, effectively manage conflict, and promote a positive, supportive work environment.
• Ability to make sound decisions in fast-paced environments, prioritize competing demands, and maintain compliance with organizational policies and safety standards.
• Skill in coordinating patient care activities, managing schedules, and optimizing workflow efficiency.
• Prior outpatient, ambulatory, or infusion clinic experience.
• Experience with biologics, IVIG, antibiotics, or hydration therapy.
• Experience with central line management, including PICC line care, flushing protocols, and steriledressing changes in an ambulatory or infusion setting.
• Reliable peripheral IV insertion and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong assessment and prioritization skills in a small team environment.
• Familiarity with INS Infusion Therapy Standards.
• Experience with EPIC EHR.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (higher degree accepted) Bachelor's of Nursing BSN -Required

Work Experience:

1 year Supervisory or management experience - Required

3 years IV Infusion experience -Required

2 years Progressive supervisory experience required, including direct oversight of staff, performance management, and operational responsibilities -Preferred

Licenses and Certifications:

Registered Nurse (RN) Current Registered Nurse License for the State of Texas Upon Hire -Required

BLS Obtained through approved American Heart Association Upon Hire -Required

ACLS Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certification Within 3 Months -Required

AMB-BC Ambulatory Care Nurse – Board Certified -Preferred

CRNI Certified Registered Nurse Infusion -Preferred
