Job description

Arts & Science is seeking a talented Administrator, Teaching Laboratories to join the Department of Physics. This individual will administer experimental lab set-ups across multiple courses, including preparation of materials and troubleshooting problems. Operate specialized physics equipment to construct laboratory experiments demonstrating physical laws of nature. Perform tests to ensure that lab and demonstration equipment is operating to standards, ensuring adherence to lab safety and proper use. Recommend revisions to laboratory experiments for review and approval by others. Assist with laboratory experiments, audio visual equipment, and demonstrations, as required. Monitor instructional space, equipment storage, and repair shop facilities to ensure that standards are met and report any deviations.


Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in science related field.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Physics.
Required Experience:
3+ years related experience. Must include experience working in a scientific teaching laboratory, including equipment set-up, troubleshooting, and writing experimental protocols. May be required to acquire a certificate of fitness from FDNY once employed by NYU.
Preferred Experience:
3+ years in a University teaching laboratory.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to operate and maintain relevant lab equipment (e.g., function generators, power supplies, transducers, analog and digital circuits, mechanical apparatus, data acquisition, and software simulation, power and hand tools). Proficient in standard office equipment and software such as MacOs, Windows, Microsoft office, as well as programming languages similar to Labview and Python. Skilled in basic machine skills to maintain lab and demonstration equipment using a CNC machine, lathe, mill, drill press, power and hand tools. Experience with CAD/CAM software, 3D modeling, and the use of a 3D printer to prototype development for instructional and research laboratories. Ability to work flexible shifts, including early mornings and evenings, as this position’s work hours will vary each semester.


In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $77,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
