Description
Solano Community College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for possible temporary part-time teaching assignments in the Physics department. In general, we may have a need during any semester, including summer. The position will start in January 2026. Assignments may include day, evening, and weekend courses. The District may cancel classes or change instructors as enrollment needs are determined.
Paid office hours are available to adjunct faculty in fall and spring semesters who teach a 40% assignment or more.
Part-time instructors who pass three evaluation processes, and teach a minimum of four semesters with positive reviews, can expect to be priority hires for subsequent semesters as detailed in the faculty contract.
Instructors who are qualified to teach online or desire to teach a course using an online modality must attend a rigorous training course, design an ADA-approved CANVAS delivered course, and have the course approved by the curriculum committee prior to the scheduling deadlines for any specific semester. In general, this must be finalized five to eight months before the semester begins.

Responsibilities
Teach classes in trigonometry-based physics, calculus-based physics, or non-majors physics. Note that in all courses that contain labs, the labs must be taught face-to-face, regardless of whether the lectures are delivered face-to-face or online.
Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations; create and follow a course syllabus; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; maintain required student attendance and scholastic records; and perform assessment of student learning outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics; OR Bachelor's degree in physics or astronomy AND Master's degree in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics;
OR
Possession of a valid California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service in the discipline. Please note that issuance of CC Credentials was discontinued in July of 1990; they are no longerbeing issued.

Eligibility:
Taught at Solano Community College for at least two semesters (excludes summer session); must be scheduled for a minimum of 40% assignment at the time of enrollment in the health plan; enrollment periods to be determined each semester; once enrolled mandatory participation will be required (participation period to be determined); premiums will be made through payroll deduction and additional premiums due on a monthly basis by check to the Business Office no later than the 10th of each month for the succeeding month's benefits; and other procedures for implementation as determined by the District in consultation with the Association.
