Do you enjoy ensuring strong Radiation Protection (RP) practices and providing thoughtful oversight to support safe, effective fieldwork?

If so, this opportunity may be the perfect fit for you. Our Port Hope location is seeking a Health Physicist to support the Historic Waste Program (HWP) Management Office, delivering essential Health Physics and Radiation Protection expertise to a missiondriven team.

What will you be doing!

  • Preparing, reviewing, and revising complex and/or specialized radiation protection plans and procedures.
  • Performing Radiological safety assessments.
  • Establishing, implementing, and maintaining radiation protection performance models and metrics.
  • Preparing or participating in RP-program self-assessments and compliance reviews.
  • Resolving complex technical issues within the project team and the general RP team, and prioritizing deliverables to ensure timelines are met.
  • Completing radiological safety and dose assessments, ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) assessment and reviews.
  • Identifying and recommending improvements to CNL procedures and policies that affect their own work area, and collaborating with others in developing procedural improvements.
  • Maintaining oversight of processes for the calibration of RP instrumentation and decontamination methods and techniques.
  • Managing the collection, packaging, and shipment of samples to the laboratory.
  • Ensuring both Port Grandby and Port Hope sites are compliant with RP Program requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • University Degree in health physics or an honours degree in science or engineering with postgraduate studies and/or experience in health physics or related discipline.
  • Experience
    • Minimum 3 years (36 months) as an operational Health Physicist in a relevant related field or CNL Group 1 Health Physics Qualification.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • A valid Ontario class "G" (or equivalent) driver's license.
    • Knowledge of recommendations and guidelines of radiological protection standards.
    • Understanding of radiation protection philosophies, procedures, equipment, and techniques, both in theory and practice.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to make decisions based on established requirements, procedures and practices.
    • Use of Microsoft computer software, knowledge and use of databases.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required

    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."


Working Conditions:

  • Must be able and willing to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to work in a construction environment with the potential for uneven footing on various surfaces (soil, mud, gravel, and pavement).
  • Must be able to wear standard and specialized Personal Protective equipment (once trained to do so) including CSA-approved hard hat, safety glasses, footwear, Tyvek Suits, and full and half-faced respiratory protection.

Roughly 100 km east of Toronto, it is still close enough to the "Big City" without all the hassle of being in the "Big City."
