Responsibilities
Summary:
The Skilled Laborer performs a wide range of physical labor tasks in support of construction and infrastructure projects. This position requires hands-on experience with construction tools and equipment, the ability to follow directions, and a commitment to safety. The ideal candidate has experience in heavy civil construction, including roads, bridges, or similar projects This position requires demonstrated experience working on bridge structures and the ability to perform work safely with minimal supervision. The Skilled Laborer assists with concrete placement, bridge rehabilitation, formwork, demolition, material handling, and other specialized construction activities while supporting project schedules and quality standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or project plans.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors or defects.
  • Measure, cut, or shape materials to the specified measurements.
  • Operate heavy machinery or drive vehicles, if necessary.
  • Perform essential maintenance and repair tasks when necessary.
  • Perform physical labor tasks at construction sites, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials and equipment.
  • Assist with concrete placement, demolition, grading, excavation, formwork, and other job site operations.
  • Operate small hand and power tools such as jackhammers, drills, saws, tampers, and compactors.
  • Assist skilled tradespeople such as carpenters, masons, and equipment operators.
  • Follow all safety regulations and procedures; report unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Load and unload construction materials and tools.
  • Clean and prepare job sites by removing debris and ensuring safe working conditions.
  • Support the setup and breakdown of temporary structures such as scaffolding or traffic control devices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the foreman or superintendent.

Qualifications
Qualifications/Skills Required:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy highway, bridge, or civil construction preferred.
  • Experience working on bridge structures, including concrete, formwork, demolition, or rehabilitation activities.
  • Basic ability to read construction plans, measurements, and layout information.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety practices.
  • Strong attention to quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record preferred
  • Follow oral and written directions and plans
  • Communicate with site supervisors, co-workers, and clients effectively.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, walk, and work at heights for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of trade tools, equipment, materials, methods, and techniques.
  • Lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects while carrying tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to work on weekends and at night when needed, sometimes with limited notice.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • A pre-employment drug screen is required. All employees are subject to random and reasonable suspicion drug testing.

Reports to: Superintendents while taking daily direction from field supervisors staff
Location: Falls Church, Virginia
