Specific Duties: The Software Engineer (open source) is responsible for developing and maintaining software applications primarily in popular open source programming languages. Additionally, the Software Engineer (open source) must manage the improvement of existing applications that are already in use.
  • Custom build web-based applications to industry standards either alone or in conjunction with a small team
  • Provide third-party code integration and maintenance or enhancements
  • Troubleshoot website, application, and server problems
  • Contribute to the development of common code
  • Provide quality assurance and benchmark testing, and document functionality of scripts and website interfaces
  • Improve customer service, perception, and satisfaction
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
  • Escalate development issues that cannot be completed within agreed service levels
  • Communicate to customers and internal management: keeping them informed of progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages, etc.
  • Business awareness: specific knowledge of the customer and how IT relates to their business strategy and goals
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the software and how it relates to customer's needs
  • Document internal processes and procedures related to duties and responsibilities
Required Experience:
  • 5+ years experience building scalable web applications in PHP using MVC frameworks
  • PHP, MySQL, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Version Control systems, API's and object oriented programming, developer, programmer, engineer, architect
  • Strong MySQL query building experience
  • Solid experience with cross-platform, browser compliant HTML (HTML5)
  • Good Javascript knowledge (jQuery framework)
  • Experience with version control systems
  • Familiarity with integrating popular APIs (parsing JSON, XML), experience with social media APIs beneficial
  • Attention to detail - clean code and precise design translation
  • Experience working with complex data structures and algorithms
  • Experience developing workflow and content management solutions
  • Ability to absorb new technologies quickly
  • Strong verbal and written communicator
