What is a photography stylist?

A photography stylist, also known as a photo stylist, is a professional responsible for arranging and designing the visual elements within a photograph. They work closely with photographers, art directors, and clients to create appealing settings, select props, and ensure that every detail aligns with the desired aesthetic or brand image. Photography stylists play a key role in fashion, advertising, food, and product photography, using their creative skills to make the subject of the photo look its best. Their work helps convey a specific mood or message through visuals, enhancing the overall impact of the image.

How does a Photography Stylist typically collaborate with photographers and other creative professionals during a shoot?

A Photography Stylist works closely with photographers, art directors, makeup artists, and sometimes clients to ensure the visual elements align with the creative vision of the shoot. This includes selecting props, arranging products, and making real-time adjustments to achieve the desired look. Effective communication and flexibility are essential, as stylists often need to adapt their setups based on lighting, camera angles, or last-minute client feedback. Their collaboration ensures that every detail—from color schemes to object placement—enhances the final image.

What is the difference between Photography Stylist vs Fashion Stylist?

Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations in the styling industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Photography Stylist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Photography Stylist, you need a keen eye for visual composition, strong knowledge of current trends, and often a background in art, design, or fashion. These abilities ensure visually compelling images that align with brand aesthetics and project goals.

Kids II, Inc.

Atlanta, GA • On-site

Full-time

Posted 28 days ago

Job description

At Kids2, we're really good at what we do. And when we're great at our jobs, we help parents be great at their jobs.
Parenting is demanding, and that's where we come in. We want to reimagine how brands can make it easier for early stage parents - not by just selling them products, but by providing holistic solutions that transcend borders, categories and aisles.
No matter our title or department, at Kids2, our job is to create more tiny wins for parents, so they can create bright futures for their little ones. That's a big task!
We're serious about what we do, AND we love to have fun. Our team is hardworking, entrepreneurial, and passionate about helping families create millions, if not billions of tiny wins.
SUMMARY
The Photography Production Manager is a manager-of-process role responsible for end-to-end photography production for all Kids2 categories shot in Atlanta. This role oversees scheduling, sample logistics, crew and talent bookings, and day-of-shoot production management across studio and location work. Partnering closely with Creative, Category, Ecommerce, Packaging, and Sales teams, this role ensures that all photography needs are translated into clear production plans and executed efficiently, on time, and on brief. The Photography Production Manager is based in Atlanta and works across the Buckhead office, Doraville studio, home office, and various on-location environments.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Own the end-to-end photography production process from intake and scheduling through the day of the shoot for all Atlanta-based photo needs.
  • Manage and maintain the photography production calendar, ensuring alignment with marketing, ecommerce, packaging, and category timelines and priorities.
  • Partner with category managers, packaging designers, brand/marketing, ecommerce, and sales teams to understand photography needs, clarify briefs, and translate them into actionable production plans.
  • Coordinate and track product samples in partnership with category and product teams, ensuring accurate, on-time delivery of samples to the studio or location and managing returns or disposition post-shoot.
  • Build and maintain detailed production books and call sheets, including shot lists, schedules, talent information, location details, and logistical requirements.
  • Book freelance photographers, stylists, production assistants, hair/makeup (as needed), and talent based on established vendor pools and internal guidance.
  • Coordinate with external talent agencies and internal partners to schedule and confirm child and adult talent, ensuring all required releases and documentation are in place.
  • Provide on-set production leadership on shoot days, managing schedules, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring efficient, professional execution in collaboration with the Director, Content and other creative leads.
  • Support both creative and logistical decision-making on set, helping interpret briefs and make day-of adjustments (shot order, minor styling, angles) while staying aligned with brand standards and direction from the Director, Content.
  • Collaborate with the video team when photo and video productions overlap, aligning schedules, resources, and talent usage to maximize efficiency.
  • Partner with a freelance producer and freelance production coordinators as needed, providing clear direction on tasks, timelines, and deliverables, without direct people-management responsibilities.
  • Maintain and update production trackers, status reports, and documentation in Smartsheet and other tools, providing clear visibility to stakeholders on project progress and upcoming shoots.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of assets and production documentation to downstream partners (e.g., post-production, DAM, ecommerce, packaging) following established workflows.
  • Identify and escalate production risks, conflicts, or resourcing constraints early, offering practical solutions and adjustments to keep work on track.
  • Continuously contribute to improving production processes, tools, and standards to increase efficiency, consistency, and quality across Atlanta photo production.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • 3+ years of experience in photography, film, or creative production, preferably within consumer products, retail, ecommerce, or an agency/studio environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end still photography productions, including pre-production planning, scheduling, sample coordination, crew and talent bookings, and on-set management.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with creative, marketing, ecommerce, product/category, and/or packaging teams on content needs.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with freelance photographers, stylists, PAs, and talent, and coordinating with talent agencies and other vendors.
  • Familiarity with studio and on-location photo production, including working with infants, toddlers, children, and families, is strongly preferred.

EDUCATION & SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in Photography, Film, Production, Marketing, Communications, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with a high level of attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate on-set teams and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, resourceful, and solutions-oriented under pressure and in fast-changing on-set environments.
  • Comfortable balancing creative needs with time, budget, and operational constraints.
  • Ability to work effectively with children and families in a professional, patient, and safety-conscious manner.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • None required.

COMPUTER/TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Proficient in Smartsheet for project and production tracking.
  • Experience with Brandfolder or similar Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems.
  • Working knowledge of Capture One and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat) sufficient to review, organize, and communicate about assets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Lets Flo or similar post-production workflow platforms.
  • Proficient in Outlook and Webex (or similar email and conferencing tools).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The team member frequently is required to sit; have flexible use of hands; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is performed in typical office and photo studio environments, as well as indoor and outdoor location settings.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can vary based on studio or location activity.
  • The role follows a hybrid schedule, with a mix of work-from-home, Buckhead office, Doraville studio, and on-location work as production needs require.

We offer competitive pay, flexible hours, and generous benefits. Plus, to keep things fun (because we are all kids at heart), we offer a host of team member activities and philanthropic efforts throughout the year and company-wide awards and recognition for a job well done!
