Lab Technician- Visual Media, PT
SUMMARY
The Lab Technician will report to the Visual Media Lab Manager and assist in conducting the checkout of photography, video, audio, and other equipment. They will provide technical support to students and faculty, and support the Lab Manager with orderly operation and upkeep of lab spaces. They will work alongside, and assist in directing, student workers. This is an on-campus position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assemble orders for pickup. Check and receive returning orders.
  • Evaluate orders to ensure gear compatibility.
  • Mark items as needing repair and document loss and damage (L&D) narratives.
  • Sanitize all items upon check- in.
  • Coordinate with the Lab Manager and/or student workers to triage scheduling problems or make changes to reservations.
  • Keep inventory of ink, repair parts, darkroom chemistry, and other lab supplies. Work with the

Lab Manager to keep these items in stock.
  • Assist in the cleaning, maintenance, and oversight of darkrooms, studios, print labs, and auxiliary lab spaces.
  • Perform administrative duties as needed. Collaborate with the Lab Manager and faculty on projects.
  • Act as an on-call contact for emergency situations involving labs and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or
ability required:
  • The ideal candidate will be customer service-oriented,balancing enforcement of policies and protocols with understanding and discretion.
  • They will be familiar with photo/video/audio equipment.
  • Past experience with administrative support and inventory management.
  • The individual must have basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite

as well as the ability to multitask.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and regular communication are also expected.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • BFA or BSC in Photography, Videography, or related field preferred,or 3 years equivalent job experience. HS Diploma or GED required.
