Photogrammetry Remote information

What is photogrammetry remote work?

Photogrammetry remote work involves using photographs and specialized software to make measurements and create maps or 3D models, all from a remote location. Photogrammetrists can process aerial or satellite images, analyze data, and generate outputs without needing to be on-site. This job requires skills in image processing, attention to detail, and proficiency with photogrammetry software. Remote photogrammetry work is common in industries like surveying, construction, forestry, and archaeology, where spatial data is essential.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in photogrammetry remote roles, and how can they be managed?

Professionals working in Photogrammetry Remote positions often encounter challenges such as processing large datasets, ensuring data accuracy, and overcoming hardware or software limitations. Managing these challenges typically involves optimizing workflows, using cloud-based processing solutions, and staying current with the latest photogrammetry software updates. Effective communication with project teams and clients is also essential to clarify requirements and address any discrepancies in data interpretation. Continuous learning and collaboration with GIS specialists, surveyors, and other remote sensing professionals can help overcome technical and logistical hurdles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a photogrammetry remote specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Photogrammetry Remote Specialist, you typically need a background in geospatial sciences, cartography, or a related field, along with experience in image processing and spatial data analysis. Familiarity with photogrammetry software (such as Agisoft Metashape or Pix4D), GIS platforms, and possibly UAV/drone operation certification is essential. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help ensure data accuracy and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. These competencies are crucial for producing precise spatial data products and supporting informed decision-making in mapping, surveying, and remote sensing projects.

What is the difference between Photogrammetry Remote vs GIS Technician?

AspectPhotogrammetry RemoteGIS Technician
Required CredentialsGIS or Geospatial certifications, remote sensing degreesGIS certifications, geography or related degrees
Work EnvironmentRemote, field data collection, officeOffice-based, fieldwork possible
Industry UsageMapping, surveying, 3D modelingMapping, spatial analysis, data management

Photogrammetry Remote and GIS Technicians both work in geospatial fields, often requiring similar certifications and working in remote or office environments. While Photogrammetry Remote focuses on creating 3D models and maps from aerial imagery, GIS Technicians handle spatial data analysis and management. Both roles are essential in mapping and surveying industries, with overlapping skills but different primary tasks.

How to become a photogrammetry remote?

To become a remote photogrammetry specialist, you typically need a background in geospatial sciences, surveying, or related fields, along with proficiency in photogrammetry software such as Pix4D or Agisoft Metashape. Developing skills in 3D modeling, GIS, and remote sensing, as well as gaining experience through projects or certifications, can improve employability. Many roles require a reliable internet connection and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Job description

Responsibilities

Are you passionate about building advanced geospatial intelligence capabilities that directly support national security missions? We are seeking an Expert Integration Engineer with deep expertise in spectral exploitation environments, systems integration, and enterprise deployment to support mission-critical initiatives within the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG).

In this role, you will lead the engineering, integration, and deployment of cutting-edge spectral exploitation capabilities that enable Image Scientists to process, analyze, and exploit both literal and non-literal data. Working alongside systems engineers, software developers, and mission experts, you'll help ensure seamless interoperability across enterprise systems while advancing the next generation of GEOINT mission capabilities.

What You'll Do

As an Expert Integration Engineer, you will:

  • Lead the engineering, integration, and deployment of enterprise-scale spectral exploitation environments supporting GEOINT mission operations.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to government leadership, providing expertise on strategic vision, technical roadmaps, system capabilities, and enterprise integration.
  • Translate mission needs and customer requirements into scalable technical solutions and systems capability requirements.
  • Plan and execute complex systems integration activities across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, developers, and Image Scientists to ensure end-to-end interoperability across the NSG TCPED Enterprise.
  • Analyze user requirements, system architectures, workflows, and technical dependencies to improve performance, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Support technical planning, project management, risk mitigation, interface design, and performance engineering efforts.
  • Establish and maintain an integrated Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) environment that enables advanced spectral exploitation tradecraft for image scientists.
  • Ensure the integrity, scalability, and performance of complex system-of-systems architectures supporting national intelligence missions.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Imagery Analysis, or another STEM-related discipline
    • Additional experience may be substituted for education (4 years with no degree or 2 years with a non-STEM degree)
  • 18+ years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience integrating sensor programs into large, complex System-of-Systems or Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) environments across cloud, on-premises, or hybrid infrastructures.
  • 5+ years supporting NGA programs or projects.
  • Experience integrating spectral data into spectral exploitation tools.
  • Experience integrating cloud-based technologies and enterprise solutions.
  • Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering Lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG), Allied System for Geospatial-Intelligence (ASG), and National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) enterprise environments.
  • Previous Intelligence Community (IC) or Department of Defense (DoD) program experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance or the ability to obtain SCI eligibility and successfully pass a polygraph.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Imagery Analysis, or another STEM-related field.
  • INCOSE Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) certification.
  • Experience integrating spectral exploitation tools within the SAGE/CAP architecture.
  • Experience with NGA Advanced Tradecraft Services (ATS) tools, including Data Transformation Services and the Full Spectrum Tool Kit.
  • Working knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), associated methodologies, tools, and modeling languages.
  • Expertise in photogrammetry, remote sensing, image science, information sciences, geographic information systems (GIS), geomatics, or related disciplines.
  • Experience integrating Automation, Augmentation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into enterprise solutions.
