The main difference between a Photo Lab Assistant and a Photo Printer is that the Photo Lab Assistant handles a broader range of tasks including customer service and photo processing, while the Photo Printer primarily focuses on operating printing equipment and ensuring print quality. Both roles are essential in photo labs and retail environments, but the Photo Lab Assistant typically requires a broader skill set related to customer interaction and photo processing techniques.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Photo Lab Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Photo Lab Assistant, you need a solid understanding of photographic processes, attention to detail, and basic computer skills, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with digital photo editing software, photo printing equipment, and point-of-sale systems is typically required. Strong customer service, time management, and teamwork abilities help you excel in a customer-facing and deadline-driven environment. These skills ensure accurate photo production, efficient workflow, and positive client experiences in a fast-paced lab setting.

What are Photo Lab Assistants?

Photo Lab Assistants are professionals who work in photo processing labs, helping to develop, print, and sometimes digitally enhance photographs. They handle photographic equipment and chemicals, assist customers with printing orders, and ensure that images are processed accurately and efficiently. Their duties may also include maintaining lab equipment, managing digital files, and providing customer service related to photo products. This role requires attention to detail, technical skills, and knowledge of both traditional and digital photo processing.

What are some common challenges faced by Photo Lab Assistants, and how can they be overcome?

Photo Lab Assistants often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, ensuring high-quality output, and handling a variety of customer requests simultaneously. To overcome these, strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential. Developing familiarity with lab equipment and photo editing software can help process orders efficiently, while clear communication with both customers and team members ensures that expectations are met and issues are resolved quickly.

Job description

Description
Look Lab Med Spa is a fast-growing luxury aesthetic brand with locations across the U.S., specializing in injectable aesthetics, advanced regenerative treatments, and curated facial services. We are known for natural, elevated results and a patient experience rooted in our core belief: Look Good, Feel Good, Do Good.
We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and polished Medical Assistant whose primary focus is clinic flow efficiency—keeping providers on schedule, preparing rooms, supporting injectors, and ensuring every patient has a seamless experience from start to finish.
This is NOT a traditional back-office MA role. This role is a hybrid of clinical support, high-level logistics, patient flow management, and hands-on assistance with our injectors.

Key Responsibilities
These reflect the real Look Lab workflow and the tasks that will make your injectors more efficient:
  • Clinic Flow & Injector Support (Primary Function)
  • Move patients through the full appointment flow smoothly and on time
  • Prepare treatment rooms before each patient and turn them over quickly afterward
  • Assist injectors with treatment flow, supply setup, photo capture, and patient positioning
  • Anticipate provider needs to keep appointments running efficiently
  • Support treatment planning by preparing face sheets, forms, and before/after photos
  • Gather supplies and ensure injectors never have to stop their treatment flow
  • Manage charting support tasks such as prepping templates and ensuring accuracy
  • Maintain organization of back-of-house areas and clinical workstations
  • Ensure injectors stay on schedule by managing room timing, patient handoff, and transitions
  • Patient-Facing Duties
  • Greet and escort patients to and from treatment rooms
  • Prep patients: cleanse face, review pre-care steps, set expectations
  • Assist with post-care education and ensure a smooth checkout pathway
  • Provide warm, luxury-level patient experiences
  • Support the Patient Concierge during busy times
Clinical Responsibilities
These are important but not the main focus of the role:
  • Perform venipuncture with confidence
  • Draw blood for PRP/PRF and prepare tubes and centrifuge
  • Maintain sterile technique during all clinical tasks
  • Support injectable, microneedling, and regenerative medicine workflows
  • Maintain tight compliance with protocols and safety procedures
  • Phlebotomy is required, but the real core is operational excellence and keeping the injector focused solely on patient care.

Required Qualifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent medical assisting education)
  • Documented phlebotomy training (Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required)
  • Strong venipuncture skills
  • Experience in aesthetics, dermatology, plastic surgery, or cosmetic medicine preferred
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills
  • Professional, warm, and luxury-service communication style
  • Ability to follow detailed workflows without constant direction
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and discretion

Benefits
  • Employee discount on products & services
  • Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
  • 401(K)
  • Paid time off
  • Additional benefits available
