VCA Fleming Island Animal Hospital is hiring a full-time Patient Care Attendant to join our Fear Free Certified team!

VCA Fleming Island Animal Hospital is a 2-doctor, full-service veterinary hospital located in Fleming Island, FL. We offer primary care, illness care, surgery, dentistry, and boarding services for our patients. In addition to caring for canine and feline companions, our hospital is also happy to see pocket pets, including ferrets, guinea pigs, rats, mice, hedgehogs, and reptiles.
Our hospital is proud to support the local community by partnering with rescue organizations such as the Jacksonville Humane Society, Safe Animal Shelter, and other local rescue groups. We also love creating a welcoming and memorable experience for our clients through seasonal celebrations, holiday cheer, and our monthly themed pet photo booth.

Position Details
Position: Patient Care Attendant
Schedule: Full-time, weekend rotation required
Compensation: $16.00-$18.00 per hour, depending on experience
What You'll Do
As a Patient Care Attendant, you play an important role in supporting patient comfort, cleanliness, safety, and the overall flow of the hospital. This position is ideal for someone who loves working with animals, takes pride in keeping a clean and organized environment, and enjoys being part of a team.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing compassionate daily care for hospitalized, boarding, and daycare patients
  • Feeding, walking, bathing, and monitoring pets in our care
  • Maintaining clean, comfortable, and sanitary kennels, runs, cages, treatment areas, and hospital spaces
  • Assisting veterinary assistants, technicians, and doctors with patient handling and restraint as needed
  • Monitoring patients for changes in behavior, appetite, elimination, or comfort level and communicating concerns to the medical team
  • Supporting Fear Free handling and low-stress patient care
  • Preparing patient areas for arrivals, procedures, boarding stays, and discharges
  • Assisting with laundry, dishes, stocking, and general hospital cleanliness
  • Helping create a positive experience for pets, clients, and team members
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. Previous animal care experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person who has a strong work ethic and genuine passion for patient care.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Experience working in a veterinary hospital, boarding facility, shelter, kennel, grooming facility, or animal care environment
  • Comfort handling dogs, cats, and exotic/pocket pets
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques
  • Ability to lift, bend, stand, walk, and perform physically active tasks throughout the shift
  • Reliable attendance and availability for a full-time schedule, including rotating weekends
