Description

Position involves preparing for and teaching courses in Phlebotomy in order to achieve course requirements and student success outcomes. Course assignments may occur in a classroom setting, learning lab, or contracted facility.
Specific instruction to include teaching the Phlebotomy curriculum as assigned which may include lecture and laboratory skills training. You will review lesson plans and prepare for class instruction, grade and record assignments, actively promote student retention, and perform related work as required.
**This position needed for Phlebotomy program in Alpena, MI. Individual with good working relationship with area healthcare labs is a plus.**
Examples of Duties
  1. Teaches assigned classroom courses.
  2. Develops and updates syllabi for courses assigned and ensures course content and requirements meet the requirements of college and accreditation agencies.
  3. Assists with the development of curriculum, policies and procedures to maintain current and effective delivery of course materials.
  4. Attends and facilitates the student orientations for incoming students.
  5. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
  6. Regularly assess program outcomes to evaluate effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  7. Assesses student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
  8. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, to include student attendance and grades.
  9. Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
  10. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide; serves on college committees as encouraged/assigned.
  11. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives.
  12. Maintains contact with the students of the program upon completion of the course to gather and maintain job placement information.
  13. Adheres to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures all communications and practices demonstrate support of the Ethics for Teaching Professionals.
  14. Conducts onsite visits to students at clinical sites.
  15. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College's Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licensure:
  • National Phlebotomy Technician Certification, (ASCP preferred), must maintain active certification.
    1. ASCP Certifications awarded after 2004 will remain valid for a period of three years. In order to maintain certification, must complete the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) every three years.
    2. If alternate certification and for those ASCP certified before 2004, must complete at least one laboratory related CEU per year.
  • OR
  • National Certification in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science, must maintain active certification.
    1. ASCP Certifications awarded after 2004 will remain valid for a period of three years. In order to maintain certification, must complete the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) every three years. If alternate certification and for those ASCP certified before 2004, must complete at least one laboratory related CEU per year.
  • OR
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2-year experience as a Phlebotomist or in a related healthcare field is required.
  • Previous experience in a community college environment preferred.

  • Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a close, collaborative manner with other faculty and administration.
