Job description


Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Software Developer to work on our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) team. Our team works a 4x10schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) with every Friday off.
This position is located at our Materials and Fuels Complex, which hosts the core of the U.S. nuclear research and development capabilities with a diverse array of facilities designed for remote work on highly irradiated fuels and materials. A new fuel idea can be designed, fabricated, tested, and analyzed at MFC to better understand the effects of irradiation. Many groups, such as universities, industry partners, other national laboratories, international research organizations, and other federal agencies are working at MFC.
You will develop innovative engineered solutions using current and emerging computing technologies. You will apply experience in software and hardware engineering principles, theories, concepts, and technologies with complex engineered systems.
Responsibilities:
  • Coding proficiency in industry standard modeling languages.
  • Familiarity with application programming interface concepts and technologies (including REST and SOAP)
  • Familiarity with application testing and code deployment technologies preferred (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Make preliminary selections and adaptations of technical alternatives.
  • Develop and review designs, requirement definitions, operations, documentation, and testing processes.
  • Optimize, program, and develop software using appropriate technologies for the application (which may include Rust, SQL, C/C++/C#, Python, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Analyze system performance against established goals and identify actions to improve performance.
  • Apply principles, theories, and concepts to develop, deploy, and support innovative technical solutions to mobile, embedded, desktop, web-based and hosted capabilities in the support of programmatic goals.
  • Apply standard software processes from development, code review, software QC through customer validation.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to interface databases and systems to retrieve and present data to align with business needs.
  • Continuously enhance your skills with cutting-edge technology.
  • Provide consultation services to internal teams in the areas of applicable technologies, requirement definitions, operations, and testing. Deliver high quality product features exceeding client expectations.
  • May mentor junior level staff and lease groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Level 3: Bachelor's in software development other related field and 5 years experience Master's and 2 years experience. PhD and 2 years experience.
  • Level 4: Bachelor's in software development or other related field and 9 years of experience. Master's and 6 years of experience. PhD and 4 years of experience.
  • Relevant experience using Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as Visual Studio or VS Code.
  • This position is subject to export control restrictions per the Department of Energy. For this reason, you must be either a US Citizen or a US Green Card holder to qualify for the job.

Preferred
  • Microsoft T-SQL Certification, Oracle PL/SQL Certification, Comp TIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Server Certification, Azure certification, are desirable.
  • Analyze, test, modify, document, and maintain models or simulation-based systems related to scientific domains, including nuclear applications.
  • Experience mentoring others and leading technical tasks.
  • Experience using Jira or similar tool.
  • Experience with .NET 6 and .NET Core, C#, SQL Server, or similar.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and NET WebAPI interfaces.
  • Experience with Oracle PLSQL.
  • Experience with NoSQL Databases such as MongoDB and Neo4J.
  • Experience with LINQ to SQL and Entity Framework.
  • Experience with continuous integration, and deployment using Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with other development languages (Python, Go/Golang, C/C++, etc.).
  • Experience with Agile, Kanban development methodologies.
  • Experience with Dapper, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap.

Job Information:
  • The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($95,256 - $195,288) / Level 4 ($114,360 - $235,336). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard, and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment.
