Job description

Overview

Position: Scientist / Associate Scientist in the Therapeutic Genome Engineering (TGEn) group at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Location: Memphis, TN (relocation assistance available).

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop genome editing strategies for human hematopoietic stem cells (HSC).
  • Design and execute IND-enabling experiments to characterize pharmacology of a genome‑edited HSC product for sickle cell disease.
  • Characterize efficacy, safety, and potency of the HSC cellular drug product in in‑vitro and xenotransplantation assays.
  • Perform multicolor flow cytometry and FACS to sort relevant hematopoietic populations.
  • Develop and implement experimental methods including RT‑PCR, ddPCR, next‑generation sequencing, and single‑cell sequencing.
  • Prepare and analyze NGS libraries to assess on‑target and off‑target editing outcomes.
  • Evaluate scale‑up and closed‑system processes to ensure reproducibility of the drug product.
  • Conduct exploratory research on novel in‑vitro and in‑vivo delivery strategies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance the program.
  • Establish tracking and trending analyses of process development and pilot runs.
  • Draft documentation (protocols, batch records, reports) to standardize and transfer processes to GMP facilities.
  • Maintain regular attendance and perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific area is required.

Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant scientific area is highly preferred.

Post‑degree experience required:

  • Associate Scientist: 7+ years (5+ with a Master’s, 2+ with a PhD).
  • Scientist: 8+ years (6+ with a Master’s, 3+ with a PhD).

Experience leading and supporting research experiments, lab and scientific project coordination, and guidance of laboratory personnel is preferred. Proven performance in an earlier or comparable role is required.

Salary Range

$86,320 – $154,960 per year for the role of Associate Scientist or Scientist – Yen Lab/TGEn Group.
