Description
The Brown University School of Public Health invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track) position in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. The expected start date is July 2027.
We seek exceptional candidates who will develop or continue an independent, innovative research program focused on chronic disease prevention especially in the areas of cardiometabolic health, obesity, and diabetes with an emphasis on behavioral and social sciences. We particularly welcome applications from researchers who conduct clinical or community intervention research to target modifiable risk factors of cardiometabolic diseases (e.g., physical activity, nutrition, and sleep), and/or the evolving landscape (such as GLP-1 use). Applicants leveraging emerging technologies and approaches including precision health, digital monitoring, implementation science, artificial intelligence (AI), genetics/omics, or predictive analytics are especially encouraged to apply.
The Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences has a vibrant research portfolio spanning behavioral health and intervention research and includes 16 tenured or tenure-track faculty and 28 research faculty. The Department is committed to developing and mentoring early career investigators and trains both Master's and doctoral students in behavioral and social health sciences, and participates in the teaching of undergraduate public health concentrators. The School of Public Health is home to 14 thriving research centers and ranks among the top ten schools of public health for NIH funding. The School offers rich collaborative opportunities across research centers, hospital systems, and regional clinical partners, including the Center for Health Promotion and Health Equity, the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS),an NIH-funded COBRE within the department, and the Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center (WCDRC) within Brown University Health.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in public health, nutrition science, exercise physiology, epidemiology, health promotion, clinical research or related fields, or a relevant clinical doctoral degree (e.g., MD, MD/PhD). Candidates should have evidence of strong methodological training. Candidates with experience interfacing with medical systems or hospital settings are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates must demonstrate a record of research excellence and productivity with the potential to sustain extramural funding; evidence of the ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and demonstrated commitment to improving health for all populations.
