The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focused on the research, development, and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.
What You Will Do
The Principal Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including:
  • Lead process development activity to improve print capability, increase speed, reduce cost and enhance material performance in support of advanced RTX Business Unit product initiatives
  • Support AM Qualification efforts utilizing IQ, OQ and MQ with a strong collaborative RTX Business Unit cross functional team
  • Develop and utilize advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space
  • Collaborate with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Unit partners to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals
  • Conduct RCCA activities on build failures, machine or process issues, or product performance gaps
  • Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to support and improve the full value stream
  • Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and best practices

Qualifications You Must Have
The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment. Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:
  • Typically requires a University Engineering Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in Additive Manufacturing tools and processes
  • Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
  • Experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages
  • Hands on experience with metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment
  • Working understanding of AM machine sensors and control systems

Qualifications We Prefer
Preferred candidates for this position will have a PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
