Department Summary
The Department of Political Science at Bridgewater State University (BSU) consists of nine full-time faculty members and provides rigorous undergraduate and graduate education. Building on the University's strong liberal arts foundation, we prepare a diverse student body for leadership roles in public and nonprofit sectors, and the profession of governance. - Critical Analysis of Political Processes, Institutions, & Practices: Students will critically assess the systematic factors that underlie political processes, systems, and practices.
- Effective Written Communication: Students will effectively communicate about political systems, processes, and theories in a rigorous manner by developing cogent, logical arguments that properly employ and make use of relevant evidence.
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Accessibility: Students will be able to: 1) Analyze how dimensions of human diversity (e.g., race, sex, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, class, national origin, citizenship, etc.) shape political attitudes, participation, and outcome, 2) Evaluate the empirical and normative implications of government actions that affect these dynamics, and 3) Assess the conceptual and definitional challenges involved in studying human diversity.
- Understanding Research Design: Students should understand, apply, and recognize the main processes of research design.
- Application of Qualitative & Quantitative Research Methods: Students should understand, recognize and know how to apply the primary characteristics of both qualitative and quantitative research.

Essential Duties
The Political Science Department at BSU invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in international relations to begin the fall semester 2027 at the level of assistant professor. The successful applicant will be required to teach courses in international relations, American foreign policy, and other courses in the department's International Affairs concentration. Additionally, the successful applicant will contribute to the department's responsibilities in the University's CORE curriculum (including Introduction to American Government as well as First and Second Year Seminars) and the department's undergraduate research methods sequence.
Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Political Science or a related field by September 1, 2027 is required.
A commitment to teaching excellence, and evidence of scholarly activity in the field of international relations are also required.

Salary is commensurate with experience in accordance with the Appendix O of the
MSCA contract. A reasonable starting salary range to expect for a new faculty member appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor is $75,000 to $85,000.
