Summary
Looking to join a dynamic physics team in a growing cancer center? The Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Greater Lansing has an opening for a board certified or board eligible medical physicist. The position is part of a network of 12 physicists and is primarily responsible for supporting activities in Lansing, with potential for remote support from and to other centers.
The Team
The successful candidate will join a local team of 1 Physicist, 2 Dosimetrists, 5 Therapists, and 1 Radiation Oncologist. The Karmanos Cancer Network includes 13 physicists, 12 dosimetrists, and 3 physician practices providing care for cancer patients throughout the state of Michigan.
The physics team collaborates in all areas of patient care and technical responsibilities, and the new team member would have immediate opportunities to make significant contributions across the spectrum of physics duties.
Technologies
The network has upgraded all sites to the latest and full-featured Varian TrueBeam, equipped with 6 dof, 4DCBCT, gating, HyperArc, Identify, and developer mode. Phillips CT Simulators are nearly universal with several Canon CTs to be installed in the next two years. HDR brachytherapy is widely available through the network, including Lansing, featuring Varian Bravos HDR. We offer a broad range of treatments to our patients including Proton therapy, SRS/SBRT, respiratory gating, brachytherapy, and theranostics.
All Karmanos sites utilize Eclipse treatment planning and Aria record and verify on a common platform. Advanced tools like RapidPlan and MCO are available, along with Radformation ClearCheck, ClearCalc, AutoContour, and EZFluence.
Quality Assurance procedures and practices are standardized, and thoroughly implemented on the Image Owl Total QA platform. QA devices used are EPID, DQA3, IC Profiler, SRS Mapcheck, and various ICs and electrometers.
Essential Responsibilities
Acceptance and commissioning of LINAC
Management of clinical stereotactic program
Radiation therapy equipment calibration, quality assurance
Collaboration with clinical and medical staff on simulation and treatment planning.
Ongoing oversight of quality and safety of patient treatment delivery
Participation in department quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs.
Participation in clinical research efforts
Collaboration in network physics initiatives
Master's or PhD degree in medical physics or related discipline.
Certified in therapeutic medical physics from American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent certification from Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP).
Five years of work experience in a full-service radiation therapy center after receiving board certification in therapeutic medical physics.
